BANGALORE: Rolls-Royce today announced the opening of its Defense Service Delivery Center (SDC) here aimed at offering localized engineering support to improve front-line capability of Indian armed forces and HAL.
The SDC, which is the company's first delivery center in Asia, is co-located with the Rolls-Royce Engineering Center.
The Center was officially inaugurated by Dominic McAllister, British Deputy High Commissioner, Bangalore, in the presence of Rolls-Royce executives.
It is the first service delivery center for Rolls-Royce outside the UK and the US and it is the first such center in Asia, its President-India and South Asia Kishore Jayaraman told reporters here.
"This is definitely our next step in terms of our capability building....," he said.
Company officials said the center will be providing defense customers in India with services such as fleet management, services engineering and supply chain co-ordination.
It will also be the base from which Field Service Representatives can be rapidly dispatched to front line bases, subject to contract coverage, to provide on-ground technical support.
The aim is to deliver the optimum support possible to over 750 aircraft engines which power the Indian Armed Forces, including, the Adour, which powers both the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer and Jaguar combat aircraft, the Gnome engine, which powers the Sea King and the Dart, which powers the HS748, officials said.
It also provides coverage for AE2100 and AE3007 engines that power the C-130J and the Embraer 145, respectively, according to officials.
The centre also would have capability to support new engine fleets and will support HAL by enabling "state-of-the art" supply chain management.
Rolls-Royce VP Customer Services India Defense, Shaun Agle said the key aim was to try to be able to deliver more real time solutions to the customers through the MRO support and provide first and second line of support.
Company officials said the center will have a team of about 10 people initially including dedicated engineers and supply chain coordinators.
Rolls Royce has over 1,600 engineers based in India.
