New Delhi: As Pakistan continues to carry out ceasefire violations, it is learnt that five Pakistani soldiers have been killed along the Line of Control. This comes after almost six ceasefire violations over the past few days. It is reliably learnt that the actions have primarily taken place in two sectors, one being the Sunderbani area. While four soldiers have been killed in the Sunderbani area, a post has been destroyed. The ceasefire violations and renewed infiltration attempts by Pakistan are being attributed to elections in that country and the melting of snow in the geographical area.

In March, Minister of State for Defence, Subhash Bhamre had told the Parliament that Pakistan had violated the UN imposed ceasefire 209 times in January and 142 times till February 21. "There have been 351 instances of Ceasefire Violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control (LC) under operational control of Army in Jammu and Kashmir in the current year," he had said in March. Speaking during the same session of the Parliament, Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Home Affairs had said that during the year 2017, 860 cases of ceasefire violations were reported along the Line of Kashmir in Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing concern about the CFVs by Pakistan, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had, in February said, "The increase in Cease Fire Violation in J&K has been precipitated by the nefarious designs of Pakistan in perpetrating violence and creating instability in the region. These nefarious designs of the enemy are being defeated through proactive and determined actions by the Army both along the LC and hinterland. Regular review of the security situation is carried out and necessary changes in our strategy are made continuously to defeat the nexus. Appropriate retaliation to these ceasefire violations has been carried out wherever necessary." Most recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hailed the Indian security forces for their surgical strike on Pakistani posts along the LoC.
