Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday that the country will run on principles of justice and equality and not on the basis of religion.

Mr. Singh was speaking at a function organised by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, the Muslim wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Earlier in the day, Mr. Singh reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir as the State headed for Governor’s rule. This will the fourth time that J&K will be placed under Central rule during Mr. Vohra’s tenure as the Governor.

“All of you know the situation in Kashmir. Shujaat Bukhari (Rising Kashmir Editor) was killed when he was on way to break his fast. What kind of religion advocates gunning down people in the month of Ramzan. This country will not run according to religion but on the principles of justice,” Mr. Singh said.

He said Hindus should also ensure that no wrong was done to Muslims.
