The Nigerian Navy is considering ordering two landing ships from India’s Goa Shipyard for USD 102 million, the Times of India newspaper reported on 20 July.

“Nigeria floated a global tender and we have emerged as the lowest bidder, but that itself is not sufficient,” the newspaper quoted Goa Shipyard managing director Shekhar Mital as saying. “So we have improved the other parameters such as the build period, [which] has been reduced to two and a half years.”

Nigeria’s 2018 federal budget includes NGN 5.9 billion (USD 16.5 million) for the acquisition of two tank landing ships (LSTs).
