Eight people, including three officials of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), have been booked by the CBI on charges of diverting Rs 5 crore company funds to some contractors through fraudulent means between January and August.

The accused have been identified as Senior Manager (Finance) Bhaben Maitra, Assistant (Finance) Abinash Sarkar and Finance Department employee Subhashree Das, all employed in HAL Engine Division in Odisha's Koraput.

The others named included Jayaram Garada, Bipra Charana Maharana, Jisudan Khosla and Urdhab Khola besides "unknown officials". The FIR came following a complaint by HAL Manager (Vigilance) Uday Kumar Raut.

According to the complaint filed by Raut, during a half-yearly internal audit carried out on October 6, showed that certain payments against vouchers were made without any supporting documents like bills, work orders or invoices.

It came to light that Maitra was accused of approving some of these vouchers from January to August this year without seeking the requisite bills and work orders.
