Intense clashes broke out between security forces and civilians on Thursday morning during the funeral of a slain militant in Sopore of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The funeral was being held a day after militant was gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district .

Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Naveed Jatt alias Abu Hanzullah, who was wanted for the murder of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari, was also killed on Wednesday in the gunfight in Budgam.

Confirming the killing of LeT commander Jatt, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said, "Yes, we have ground confirmation that one of the two terrorists killed in the Badgam encounter was Naveed Jatt."

The Pakistani national had escaped from police custody on February 6, when he was being taken for a medical check-up to a hospital from the Srinagar Central Jail. Two policemen were also killed during Jatt's escape from the hospital.
