Just two days after the Congress leaders held a press conference saying no report has been shared with the PAC, CAG has filed a draft report in the Rafale probe

New Delhi: Just two days after Congress leaders held a press conference saying no CAG report on pricing of Rafale jets has been shared with the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) filed a draft report in the Rafale probe on Monday.

As per the procedure, the report will now be reviewed by Mallikarjun Kharge-headed PAC. The Opposition had raised a storm over the 'missing' CAG report which the Supreme Court in its Friday verdict, said had been shared with PAC.

Congress national president Rahul Gandhi held a press conference after the verdict, saying, the government had lied to the apex court that the CAG report had been shared with PAC. The leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and PAC chief Kharge said no such report had been shared with the Committee.

Shortly after, the government on Saturday filed a fresh affidavit with the apex court saying it was an error as it had only cited a procedure of the process as there was a 'grammatical error' in an earlier affidavit which led SC to believe that CAG and PAC had reviewed the pricing details.

SC on Friday, vindicated the government of any wrongdoing in the Rafale deal, based on the 'CAG report' which it said had been examined by the PAC.

The government in its affidavit filed on Saturday told the apex court that it had misinterpreted that CAG had already filed the report on pricing of Rafale jets and that PAC reviewed it. The Congress party seized the opportunity to allege that the government tried to 'mislead' the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court on Friday rejected any wrongdoing in the Rs 58,000 crore intergovernmental deal to purchase 36 Rafale jets from France.
