The Govt of India has absolved itself of all the baseless accusations of the opposition especially by the Congress party as the CAG report heavily favours the Govt as it had followed the stipulated processes and procedures. The Comptroller and Auditor General said the weapons package negotiated by the Modi govt was cheaper than what was being offered to the UPA

The Rafale deal struck by the NDA government was 2.86 per cent lower than the earlier UPA-era contract that was being negotiated, the CAG has found.

In a report tabled in Parliament Wednesday, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has said that the delivery schedule of the 2016 deal sealed by the Modi government is better than that of the medium multi-role combat aircraft, which was under negotiation since 2012.

The report added that the weapons package on the 36 Rafale fighter jets was also cheaper than what was being offered in 2012.

The CAG has compared the old deal struck by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and the new one by the NDA.

The report compared the old contract which was being negotiated during the UPA with the one finalised under the Modi government. It also looked at 11 deals, five from the UPA and six from the NDA’s time. All deals were signed between 2012 and 2017.
