Jai Hind: Air India makes the slogan mandatory for all its crew members after every on-flight announcement

New Delhi: Very soon, you will hear ‘Jai Hind’ echo high up in the air. While the Indian Air Force fighter jets keep our national flag fluttering high up in the skies with pride, national carried Air India has now made it a mandatory clause on all its flights – ‘Jai Hind’.

Cabin crew in all Air India flights will now have to say ‘Jai Hind’ after every flight announcement, “with fervour”, an official advisory of the national carrier said on Monday.

“With immediate effect, all (crew) are required to announce ‘Jai Hind’ at the end of every announcement after a slight pause and much fervour,” the advisory issued by Amitabh Singh, Director Operations, Air India, said.

Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani had in his first stint at the helm in May 2016 had issued a similar notification.

“The captain of a flight should often connect with passengers during the journey and, at the end of his first address, using the words ‘Jai Hind’ would make a tremendous impact,” Lohani had said in a communique back then, news agency PTI reported.

The Centre last month appointed Lohani as the CMD of the cash-strapped carrier for the second time in two years. He served as the AI chief from August 2015-2017. After that, he held the post as the Railway Board chairman from August 2017 to December 2018.
