Pakistan claims this video, shot from air, shows the mast of an Indian submarine above water

During a joint press conference, the Indian Navy said, "As stated during joint press conference we remain deployed as necessary to protect National Maritime Interests"

Indian Navy has slammed Pakistan for spreading false propaganda. The statement came after Pakistan Navy said it thwarted an India submarine which tried to enter Pakistani waters. Pakistan Navy had also released a purported video showing the Indian submarine

Soon after Pakistani military claimed to have "detected and thwarted" an Indian submarine's attempt to enter its territory, the Indian Navy slammed the neighbouring nation for spreading false propaganda.

During a joint press conference, the Indian Navy said, "As stated during joint press conference we remain deployed as necessary to protect National Maritime Interests."

"Over the past several days have witnessed Pakistan indulging in false propaganda. We don't take cognisance of such propaganda. Our deployment remains undeterred," the statement added.

While there was no direct mention, the Indian Navy's statement seems to directly criticising Pakistan Navy for releasing the video of a purported Indian submarine which was trying to invade Pakistani waters.

Earlier in the day, a Pakistan Navy spokesperson said the Indian submarine was thwarted from entering Pakistani waters using "specialised skills".

"The Indian submarine was not targeted keeping in view Pakistan's policy of peace," the spokesperson said.

The Pakistan Navy had also released a video of the purported submarine, but sources from the Indian Navy have denied any such development. The veracity of the video could not be independently confirmed by India Today TV.

Upon initial scrutiny, sources said the video released by Pakistan Navy is an incident from 2016 and is part of a "propaganda stunt" by Pakistan.

The development comes at a time when tension is ripe between India and Pakistan. The recent escalation between the two countries is a result of a suicide bombing attack in Kashmir's Pulwama, which killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

This is not the first time Pakistan has been slammed for allegedly using morphed or doctored videos to gain an upper hand on India.

The recent video uploaded by Pakistan government on social media after it released Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman-captured during a dogfight with Pakistan Air Force jets-was also criticised of being a propaganda tape; the "edited" video was deleted after it faced backlash.
