Rifleman Karamjeet Singh was killed in the ceasefire violation by Pak Army in Sunderbani sector

Srinagar: An army Jawan was killed and three others critically injured as Pakistan resumed ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district on Monday.

Pakistani forces violated ceasefire early this morning by firing mortar shells in Keri Battal area of Sunderbani sector. In the incident, Rifleman Karamjeet Singh, 24, was critically injured and later died of his injuries. "A soldier was killed when Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation around 5.30 a.m. today. The Indian Army retaliated effectively," news agency IANS quoted an army official as saying.

The latest firing comes just hours after Pakistan violated ceasefire at Rajouri on Sunday.

There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations by Pakistan after Indian Air Force carried "pre-emptive" air strike on Jaish-e-Mohammad terror camps in Balakot on February 26 in response to the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF soldiers were killed.

Four civilians, including three members of a family, were killed and several others injured as Pakistan targeted dozens of villages in over 100 incidents of ceasefire violations along the LoC in the state, especially in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri, since then.
