Govt has put IAF and Army on high alert in Kashmir. Centre has also rushed 28,000 troops to the Kashmir valley. Omar Abdullah has said this sounds alarming

A day after the Centre decided to send an additional 28,000 troop to Kashmir, he central government has now put the Army and Air Force on high alert in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rashtriya Rifles and other regular units deployed on the LoC have been asked to be prepared for any attempts by Pakistan to push terrorists into the Kashmir valley.

Indian Air Force fighter aircrafts have been patrolling over Jammu and Kashmir since Thursday evening as part of the operational alert. The steps have been taken in view of the increased troop induction.

Reacting to the development of Air Force and Army being on high alert, former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah said, "What "ongoing situation" in Kashmir would require the army AND the Air Force to be put on alert? This isn't about 35A or delimitation. This sort of alert, if actually issued, would be about something very different."

Over 280 companies of security forces, which are 28,000 troops, are in the process of being deployed in the Kashmir valley, official sources said on Thursday.

The security forces, mostly CRPF personnel, are being deployed in vulnerable spots in the city and other parts of the valley, they said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) led by Amit Shah, has said that deployment of paramilitary forces in Jammu and Kashmir is based on assessment of internal security situation and training requirements.

The government also said that induction and de-induction of central forces is a dynamic process and there is no need for these to be discussed in public domain.

All major entry and exit points of the city have been taken over by the Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPFs) with a token presence of local police, they said.

Officials said that security has been withdrawn from some isolated shrines because of intelligence inputs that foreign terrorists are planning to target police guard there.

Summer vacations have been been preponed at educational institutions and they will be closed for 10 days starting Thursday, they said.

Some langars for the Amarnath Yatra have also been closed, they added.

Local residents have started panic-buying essentials as they are linking the deployment of forces to apprehension of deterioration in the law and order situation.

The Centre had earlier ordered deployment of about 10,000 central forces personnel to Kashmir in order to strengthen counter-insurgency operations and law and order duties.
