The minister made this remark while reviewing the functioning of CRPF at the Force headquarters in New Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to carry out an effective and decisive campaign against Left Wing Extremism in the next six months. Shah also said that action needs to be taken against the urban Naxals and their facilitators.

The minister made this remark while reviewing the functioning of CRPF at the Force headquarters in New Delhi. He was on his maiden visit to the CRPF Directorate after assuming charge as the Union Home Minister.

He was given a detailed presentation on CRPF by Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, DG, CRPF. High ranking officials of the Ministry as well as CRPF were present on the occasion.

Shah was apprised of the organisational structure of the CRPF and its special forces. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir and CRPF’s requirements of infrastructure and equipment were discussed, including the deployment of the paramilitary force in the Naxal areas.

The Home Minister directed that effective action should be taken against the terrorists for law and order to be maintained. He also said that the Civic Action Programs should be carried out, besides organising sports and tours. Shah also advised the CRPF to reach out to the villagers and assist them in obtaining the benefits of many central schemes that are applicable to them.

Shah also reviewed the situation in the Maoist affected states and measures being taken for improving the infrastructure of the camps and measures against improvised explosive devices were also discussed.

The Home Minister emphasised that the road connectivity and medical infrastructure in LWE areas should be upgraded.

He spent about two hours with the senior officers of the force before leaving.
