New Delhi: India has had to tackle several infiltration bids along the Line of Control this year from the Pakistani side as the terror-haven neighbour continues to push terrorists into the Indian territory with absolute impunity.

However, as per a report, infiltration into India in 2020 was carried out not just from Jammu and Kashmir or Punjab, as is the trend usually. The neighbouring country this time has tried other routes as well.

The Border Security Force (BSF) says that Pakistan made the attempts from Gujarat and Rajasthan borders too this year to infiltrate terrorists. As per the data compiled by the BSF, the number of infiltration bids increased in 2020.

In 2019, there were not many incidents of infiltration via Gujarat and Rajasthan borders as per BSF records till the first week of November.

Strangely, the Kashmir Frontier of the BSF recorded only one infiltration bid in comparison to the previous year when 4 infiltrations bids were carried out till the first week of November.

This year, however, the Rajasthan and Gujarat Frontier of the BSF recorded infiltration attempts even in August and September, news agency ANI reported.

Officials said that Pakistan has been exploring alternate routes to flush in terrorists, but a vigilant BSF, with regular change in positions as per intelligence inputs, thwarted all their attempts.

“We have seen incidents of infiltration attempt s from Gujarat and Rajasthan borders as well this year. Last year, no such incidents were recorded in the same period of time,” a senior BSF official said.

The BSF said that 11 infiltration incidents have so far been recorded this year from Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat border till the first week of November.

In 2020, the highest 4-4 each infiltration attempts happened from Jammu as well as Punjab borders.

In November, a 150-metre long underground tunnel, supposedly to be used for infiltration, was found near the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba. The tunnel was detected by the BSF and Jammu and Kashmir Police during a joint operation.
