Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his first address to his nation, raked up the Kashmir issue. He called upon India to restore article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharif said that for durable peace in the Asia, India should reverse August 5, 2019 move in Kashmir.

The Pakistan PM further added that India should restore Article 370 in state so that issue of Jammu and Kashmir could be resolved through talks.

"For prevalence of peace in Asia, it's India's responsibility to revoke the unilateral and illegal decision of August 5, 2019, so that the issue of Jammu & Kashmir can be resolved with talks," Sharif said.

After becoming the PM of Pakistan in April this year, Shehbaz, in his inaugural speech also took up the Kashmir issue. "Why do we want our coming generations to suffer. Come, let's resolve the Kashmir issue in line with UN resolutions and Kashmiris' expectations, so that we are able to end poverty on both sides of the border,” Shehbaz was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

Notably, tensions between India and Pakistan increased after New Delhi revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution. The decision evoked strong reactions from Pakistan.

After India's move, Islamabad downgraded diplomatic ties. However, India time and again told the international community that the scrapping of Article 370 was its internal matter.

On Friday, in his first public address after becoming the PM of Pakistan blamed blamed former PM Imran Khan for the economic crisis in the country. Sharif's address came a day after a massive hike in the price of petroleum products in the country.
