The Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea challenging the central government’s Agnipath scheme next week. The hearing will take place next week when court resumes after vacation.

The PIL filed in the Supreme Court is related to the Agnipath scheme where the Air Force aspirants said their career will be cut short from 20 years to 4 years.

Advocate ML Sharma said, “My plea is about cancellation of the notification put out by the government. The government can bring out any scheme but it is about right and wrong. More than 70,000 are still awaiting appointment letters”.

Last month, the Centre launched the Agnipath recruitment scheme for the armed forces. The scheme, meant to be a reformative step, targets youth in the armed forces. It is envisaged that the average age profile of the Indian armed forces would come down by four years with the implementation of this scheme.
