PM Narendra Modi address at the 74th UNGA was entirely different from his earlier address at the 69th session in September 2014. New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly on Friday was just opposite of his speech given at the 69th session five years ago.

Beaming with confidence after securing a thumping mandate in 2019 Lok Sabha elections PM Modi delivered his maiden speech at the UNGA. If his address at the 69th UNGA session was all about terrorism then this year’s address was focused on fighting climate change.

Not mentioning Pakistan in his address the PM talked about rising above regional tiffs. Highlighting India’s contributions to the global community was another major aspect of the PM’s address.

In his 2014 address, the PM said that India was open to engaging with Pakistan in a peaceful environment "without the shadow of terrorism".

"I am prepared to engage in a serious bilateral dialogue with Pakistan in a peaceful atmosphere, without the shadow of terrorism, to promote our friendship and cooperation. However, Pakistan must also take its responsibility seriously to create an appropriate environment. Raising issues in this forum are not the way to make progress towards resolving issues between our two countries," the Prime Minister had said during the 69th session.

The PM further mentioned all the concrete actions taken by his government in the last five years.

From talking about India's culture to ban on single-use plastic products which is set to come into force on October 2, PM Modi also mentioned Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana calling it “world's largest Financial Inclusion drive.”

"For us in India, respect for nature is an integral part of spiritualism. We treat nature's bounties as sacred," Modi had said in 2014.

He also said that India’s contribution to global warming is minuscule and talked about several initiatives taken by the BJP government in the fight against climate change, including increasing its renewable energy capacity to 450 GW in the coming years.

On the health front, the PM said that India is aiming to eradicate tuberculosis by 2025; five years ahead of the deadline set by the UN under its sustainable development goals.

Recalling his famous election slogan, "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas" the PM also talked about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the Ayushman Bharat scheme saying that it transformed the lives of millions of people.

On the contrary, India was at the centre of Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s speech at the 74th UNGA session. From abrogation of Article 370 to RSS, Khan warned the world of far-reaching consequences of a war between two 'nuclear' armed nations and also urged the international community to be prepared for the 'worst'.
