LAHORE - Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly and former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the Pakistani Army and the nation stand united to give a befitting response to the threats being given by the Indian army chief.

Reacting to the threatening statement of the Indian general, Shehbaz Sharif said that before hurling that statement, the India army chief must refresh his memories of the September 6, 1965 war. “Pakistan is our motherland and Pakistan Army and the people stand united to defend its honour, integrity and respect.”

Shehbaz said India must not be in the illusion that Pakistan army is unaware of duties towards defence of the country. In the discharge of their obligation towards defence of Pakistan, our brave and courageous soldiers are fully alert and they are capable of responding with full force to any adventurism from the India side, he said.

Those who talk of avenging the Pakistan Army must bear in mind that every citizen of Pakistan is a soldier in defence of his country, he said, adding Indian army chief’s irresponsible statement reflects his anti-peace temperament for the South Asia region. He asked the Indian government to rein in the elements which are out to destroy peace in the region.
