A mysterious American young woman and darling of the current establishment has made explosive allegations against senior leaders of the Opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Cynthia D. Ritchie has claimed that Rehman Malik, then Pakistani interior minister, raped her after lacing her drink with sedatives in 2011. She also accused former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin of physically manhandling her inside President’s House in Islamabad. Asif Ali Zardari was then President of Pakistan.

The Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led party now faces allegations of serious misconduct as alleged by Cynthia D. Ritchie after a member of the party filed a case against her for maligning the name of its assassinated leader Benazir Bhutto.
In a Facebook live video (available below) on Friday evening, the American blogger who has made Pakistan her second home, said, she was raped by former Interior Minister Rehman Malik and physically manhandled by former Health Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin and former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

She said she still has evidence that could prove her allegations and promised to come out with it as early as next week. “I will be happy to go into more detail with an appropriate, neutral, and investigative journalist,” she said.

Last week, PPP Peshawar district President Zulfiqar Afghani had filed a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) cybercrime wing against Cynthia D. Ritchie. He claimed that Cynthia D Ritchie had made very derogatory and slanderous comments against former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her marital life with former President Asif Ali Zardari.

Last week, Cynthia D. Ritchie had posted parts of the book “Indecent Correspondence: Secret sex life of Benazir Bhutto" on Twitter. The book is full of lurid details of private lives of Benazir Bhutto, her son and current PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto and senior party leader Sherry Rehman.

Since then she has posted a number of images of PPP leaders, big and small, in situations not considered ideal in an Islamic country like Pakistan. These images show PPP leaders drinking, gambling, and dancing with women. On Friday, she reiterated that she “had a lot of dirt on a lot of people in this country”.

She had recently shocked everyone by claiming that the PPP Member National Assembly, Shazia Marri, was secretly wedded to Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah. “Speaking of clarification do share your qualifications as Senator & your sister Shazia’s qualifications for MNA. OH & if Shazia is secretly married to CM Murad Ali Shah, I will be upset because I did not get the invite! Swear upon the Quran for us, will you? What a smooth operator you are,” she had said in a reply to a tweet by Shazia Marri’s sister Anny.

According to Cynthia's allegations, Benazir Bhutto would have guards rape women. She has made some rather unseemly comments about the late political leader's sex life. She also posted a receipt of an adult toys store and challenged senior PPP leader Sherry Rehman to disprove her allegations that she used her political influence to help a sex toy business.

Who Is Cynthia D. Ritchie?

The correct answer may be an enigma wrapped with a riddle in a mystery. What is public is this: Cynthia D. Ritchie came to visit Pakistan first in 2009 as a tourist and mysteriously got introduced to people right in the top layer of Pakistani power echelons. According to her, she was invited by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik to help in building Pakistan’s image. She said she was a communications consultant to the PPP. Cynthia speaks fluent Urdu and a bit of Punjabi.

The young graduate-turned-travel-blogger-turned-communications consultant became a darling of the powerful military establishment. She is now introduced as a freelance filmmaker, writer, columnist living in Islamabad. She has often been seen hobnobbing with generals and golfing with the most powerful. At some point, she drifted away from PPP and went into the Imran Khan camp and she has been an Imran supporter since. The reasons for her bitterness about the PPP may well be personal now that she has levelled such grave allegations against them.
