The top brass of the Indian Army will carry out operational review of the situation along the borders with China and Pakistan on Thursday

The top brass of the Indian Army, including Chief of Army Staff Gen MM Naravane and all army commanders are set to carry out operational review of the situation along the borders with China and Pakistan on Thursday in view of recent changes in the leadership in Northern and Eastern Command.

Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has taken over the command of the Udhampur-based Northern Command while Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita is the new Eastern Army Commander. This is also Lt Gen Manoj Pande’s first meet as Vice Chief of Army.

The meeting comes at a time when India and China have held 14 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks and are scheduled to hold the 15th round soon.

The Army commanders would be briefed on the situation along the China border, including the activities of the People’s Liberation Army, in the eastern sector. India and China have been in a military stand-off in eastern Ladakh since April-May last year after the Chinese showed unilateral aggression.

India gave a strong response to Chinese aggression and checked their actions at multiple locations. The border row escalated after the Galwan Valley clashes on June 15, 2020, in which both sides suffered casualties.

India has been working towards establishing peace in the area but has also maintained a high-level of preparedness to thwart any misadventure by enemy troops. Both sides have deployed a large number of troops, along with heavy weaponry, in the area.
