The Russian government has reaffirmed its commitment to securing India’s resource stability, with First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov declaring Moscow’s readiness to bolster the supply of essential commodities, Russian news agency Interfax reported.

During a high-level diplomatic mission to New Delhi, Manturov highlighted the strategic importance of the energy and agricultural sectors in the deepening bilateral relationship.

The visit serves as a significant marker of the "Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" between the two nations, focusing on navigating the complexities of the current global economic landscape.

A primary pillar of the discussions centred on the energy market, where Russia remains a critical contributor to India’s fuel security. Manturov confirmed that Russian energy firms possess the requisite capacity to consistently elevate exports of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the subcontinent. 

This pledge follows a period of significant recalibration in global energy flows, with India emerging as a major destination for Russian hydrocarbons as Moscow seeks to diversify its export markets eastward.

The agricultural sector similarly featured as a focal point of the bilateral agenda. Following a substantial 40% surge in fertilizer exports to India throughout 2025, Russia has signalled its intent to remain a dependable provider of these vital inputs.

Beyond simple trade, the two nations are progressing with a joint venture for urea production, moving the relationship from a buyer-seller dynamic toward integrated industrial cooperation. This collaboration is viewed as essential for India’s domestic food security and the long-term stability of its massive farming sector.

Civil nuclear energy remains a cornerstone of the technological alliance, with both parties expressing satisfaction over the progress of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. Manturov noted that the construction of new power units is proceeding according to the established timeline, suggesting that the scope for nuclear cooperation extends well beyond current projects. This sector represents one of the most enduring facets of the Moscow-New Delhi axis, providing India with a low-carbon energy alternative backed by Russian engineering.

The First Deputy Prime Minister’s itinerary involved comprehensive engagement with the highest echelons of the Indian government, including a reception by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Separate deliberations were held with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

These meetings aimed to streamline trade mechanisms and foster more "favourable conditions" for commerce, likely addressing payment systems and logistical hurdles that have arisen in recent years.

Beyond the core pillars of energy and minerals, the talks touched upon an expansive range of future-oriented fields. Discussions spanned the frontiers of space exploration, higher education, and broader industrial collaboration.

By diversifying the partnership into high-tech sectors while shoring up the supply of basic resources, both nations appear intent on insulating their bilateral trade from external geopolitical pressures and ensuring mutual economic resilience.
