The discussions focused on energy, connectivity and broader contemporary issues, with Jaishankar describing the engagement as a useful exchange of perspectives between the three countries.

Rubio said the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss regional energy security and advance shared economic priorities, underlining the growing importance of cooperation among India, the United States and the UAE.

'India-UAE Ties Living Up To Promise of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership', Says Jaishankar During UAE Talks

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India and the United Arab Emirates are increasingly realising the full potential of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with bilateral relations continuing to deepen across economic, strategic and cultural domains.

Speaking during talks with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Mumbai, Jaishankar highlighted the remarkable progress achieved through more than a decade of sustained engagement between the two countries.

He noted that 2026 had witnessed an exceptionally high level of interaction between the leaderships of both nations, reflecting the importance both sides attach to their growing partnership.

According to Jaishankar, the relationship is continuing to advance despite global economic uncertainties and regional challenges, demonstrating the resilience of ties between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi.

Underscoring the economic dimension of the partnership, he stated that bilateral trade has crossed the $100 billion mark since the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), while two-way investments continue to expand steadily.

He said the growing volume of trade and investment reflects the confidence businesses in both countries have in each other's economies and the opportunities created by closer economic integration.

The minister also emphasised that cooperation in key sectors such as defence, energy and technology is acquiring an increasingly strategic character, strengthening the broader framework of bilateral engagement.

EAM Jaishankar further highlighted the importance of people-to-people links, noting that longstanding community connections continue to enrich both societies and reinforce the foundation of the partnership.

He added that cultural cooperation between the two countries is gaining momentum and contributing to stronger mutual understanding.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Mumbai on Monday for an official visit to India and was received by Maharashtra Minister for Skill Development Mangalprabhat Lodha.

The Ministry of External Affairs described the visit as a reflection of the close and regular high-level exchanges between India and the UAE, expressing confidence that it would further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Jaishankar welcomed the UAE Deputy Prime Minister ahead of the discussions and conveyed optimism regarding the outcomes of the meeting.

The visit comes shortly after Jaishankar's official trip to the UAE from 14 to 16 October, during which he held extensive discussions with Emirati leaders on bilateral cooperation as well as regional developments, including the situation in the Gulf.

During that visit, the External Affairs Minister also participated in the Raisina Middle East Dialogue in Abu Dhabi, where deliberations focused on regional connectivity, geopolitical challenges and the importance of building resilient international partnerships.

The India-UAE relationship has expanded significantly in recent years following the entry into force of CEPA in 2022, with trade, investment, technology collaboration, energy security initiatives and strategic cooperation emerging as major pillars of engagement.

The UAE remains one of India's most important economic and strategic partners in West Asia, while the large Indian community in the Emirates continues to play a vital role in strengthening bilateral ties.

Announcing the visit, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal extended a warm welcome to the Emirati leader and highlighted that the visit forms part of the close and regular exchanges that have become a defining feature of India-UAE relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership shared by the two countries, which has expanded significantly in recent years across trade, investment, connectivity, energy, technology and people-to-people ties.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also welcomed Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed to Mumbai and expressed his eagerness for discussions during the visit.

The Deputy Prime Minister’s arrival comes shortly after a series of important diplomatic engagements between India and the UAE that have reinforced cooperation at the highest levels.

Last week, Jaishankar met Ras Al Khaimah ruler Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, with discussions focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and reviewing developments in the Gulf region.

Following the meeting, Jaishankar described the interaction as an honour and said he appreciated Sheikh Saud’s perspectives on advancing India-UAE ties and expanding engagement with the wider region.

He also noted that the evolving situation in the Gulf featured in their discussions.

Jaishankar’s meeting with Sheikh Saud took place during his official visit to the UAE from 14 to 16 October. During that visit, the External Affairs Minister participated in the Raisina Middle East Dialogue in Abu Dhabi, where he joined a discussion titled The Continental Corridors: Who Connects the Heartland?

Speaking at the event, Jaishankar observed that global competition has intensified, new strategic chokepoints have emerged and countries are increasingly willing to leverage their advantages in a rapidly changing international environment.

He emphasised that while globalisation cannot be reversed, it must be pursued with greater resilience and trusted partnerships.

The Minister also underlined the growing significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), stating that the initiative is already influencing regional thinking on connectivity and economic integration.

The second edition of Raisina Middle East was organised jointly by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and India’s Ministry of External Affairs in Abu Dhabi from 14 to 15 October. Earlier during the visit, Jaishankar held talks with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as regional and global developments.

Describing the interaction as warm and productive, Jaishankar said the discussions reflected the spirit of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two countries also work closely on connectivity initiatives, investment, energy security and regional stability, making the latest visit another important step in sustaining the momentum of the relationship.

EAM Jaishankar To Host UAE And US Counterparts In Mumbai Next Week

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to host two significant diplomatic engagements in Mumbai on 19-20 October, welcoming UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and holding talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as India intensifies high-level outreach with key strategic partners.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Jaishankar will host Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan during an official visit to India on 19 and 20 October. The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to comprehensively review progress made under the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Discussions between the two sides will focus on advancing cooperation across a broad range of sectors, including energy, trade, investment, fintech, defence and connectivity.

The leaders are also expected to exchange views on developments in West Asia, alongside regional, global and multilateral issues of shared concern.

The UAE minister's visit comes shortly after Jaishankar's own visit to the UAE from 14-16 October, where he held meetings with the Emirati leadership and participated in the Raisina Middle East forum, underscoring the growing momentum in bilateral relations.

On 20 October, Jaishankar will hold discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Mumbai and will also attend celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States as Guest of Honour.

According to the MEA, the meeting will enable both sides to review the full spectrum of India-US relations and chart new avenues for strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

The talks are expected to cover strategic sectors such as energy, trade, investment, defence, critical and emerging technologies, as well as other areas of mutual interest.

India and the United States are also expected to exchange views on major regional and global developments, with the visit aimed at maintaining the momentum of high-level political engagement and advancing shared priorities.

The US State Department has announced that Rubio will travel to Mumbai and Jamnagar as part of his India visit. His engagements are expected to include discussions on enhanced energy cooperation, meetings with senior Indian officials and interactions with business leaders to promote commercial investment and broader economic collaboration.

The upcoming diplomatic engagements highlight India's continued emphasis on strengthening ties with both Washington and Abu Dhabi, two of its most important strategic and economic partners.

Responding to questions over why Mumbai was selected as the venue instead of New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that India has regularly hosted visiting foreign leaders in cities outside the national capital over the past decade.

He cited several examples, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosting the Prime Minister of Spain in Baroda, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Ahmedabad and the Prime Minister of Mauritius in Varanasi.

Jaiswal also pointed to the SCO Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Goa, the Botswana Foreign Minister's visit to Kevadia and the Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar as examples of important diplomatic engagements conducted outside Delhi.

The Mumbai meetings are expected to reinforce India's expanding strategic partnerships with both the UAE and the United States while further deepening cooperation in energy security, economic engagement, technology collaboration, regional connectivity and defence cooperation.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a warm and productive meeting with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, where the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations and key global developments within the framework of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The discussions formed part of Jaishankar’s official visit to the UAE from 14 to 16 October, during which he is reviewing the progress of the strategic partnership between the two countries and participating in the second edition of the Raisina Middle East Forum.

Jaishankar also joined Sheikh Abdullah at the Raisina Dialogue Middle East session, titled ‘The World Ahead: Power, Purpose & Possibility’, where the two leaders discussed the rapidly evolving international landscape and the challenges confronting the global order.

Addressing the forum, Jaishankar stressed that the pace of change in global affairs is accelerating due to a combination of long-term structural trends and immediate geopolitical shocks. He noted that nations are increasingly pursuing new partnerships and exploring fresh options to safeguard their interests in a changing environment.

He said that adapting to this reality requires countries to move beyond traditional comfort zones and develop sharper strategic awareness in order to navigate emerging opportunities and risks.

The External Affairs Minister also underlined the urgent need to reform multilateral institutions, arguing that stronger and more agile minilateral groupings can help support and advance that process at a time when existing global mechanisms face growing pressure.

Referring to ties between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi, Jaishankar described the India-UAE partnership over the past decade as a leading example of how two countries can respond effectively to shifts in the international environment through deeper cooperation and strategic alignment.

On the sidelines of the visit, Jaishankar met Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili. The two leaders reviewed expanding cooperation in trade, tourism and education, and discussed further opportunities in business, connectivity, culture and people-to-people exchanges, alongside current regional developments.

Upon arriving in Abu Dhabi, Jaishankar was received by UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy and expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome ahead of a series of high-level engagements.

The visit comes against the backdrop of continuing tensions across West Asia, with regional security, connectivity, economic cooperation and the future of global governance featuring prominently in discussions at the Raisina Middle East Forum, a platform jointly associated with India and the UAE that brings together policymakers, diplomats, business leaders and strategic experts to examine major geopolitical and economic trends.

On arrival in the UAE capital, he was welcomed by UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy and expressed his appreciation for the warm reception while looking forward to a series of high-level discussions.

During the visit, Jaishankar is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The External Affairs Minister will also take part in deliberations at the Raisina Middle East Forum, where policymakers, diplomats and strategic experts are expected to discuss major geopolitical, economic and security issues affecting the wider West Asian region.

His visit comes against the backdrop of continuing tensions in West Asia and heightened concerns over regional security.

Earlier this week, UAE Presidential Adviser Anwar Gargash called for renewed Gulf cooperation, particularly in security and defence, following escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Referring to a recent attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport that resulted in 13 deaths, including an Indian national, Gargash stressed that Gulf security is indivisible and that any threat to Saudi Arabia also threatens the UAE and other Gulf states.

He further emphasised the need to revitalise joint Gulf action, especially in the areas of security and defence, arguing that stronger collective mechanisms are necessary to address regional challenges and deter further aggression.

EAM Jaishankar Arrives In Abu Dhabi For Raisina Middle East Forum And India-UAE Strategic Partnership Review

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he will review the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and participate in the second Raisina Middle East Forum.

Upon his arrival, Jaishankar was received by UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy. He later stated that he looked forward to his discussions during the visit.

During his stay, Jaishankar is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting will comprehensively assess progress under the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore ways to further strengthen strategic cooperation, trade and economic engagement.

The visit also includes Jaishankar’s participation in the second edition of the Raisina Middle East Forum in Abu Dhabi. The event is expected to bring together policymakers, diplomats and strategic experts to discuss key geopolitical and security developments affecting the Middle East and the wider region.

His visit comes at a time of continuing tensions across West Asia and heightened concerns over regional stability. Security developments have increasingly become a focus for Gulf states amid evolving regional challenges.

Earlier this week, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash called for the revival of joint Gulf action, particularly in the areas of security and defence. He stressed the need to strengthen the collective security framework following escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Gargash said recent attacks had demonstrated that the security of Gulf countries was indivisible, arguing that threats directed at Saudi Arabia also affected the security of the UAE and the wider Gulf region. He warned that neglect of collective security arrangements had encouraged hostile actors to test regional limits and emphasised that Gulf security was a shared responsibility requiring urgent attention.

His remarks followed the 10 October attack on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport. The death toll from the incident rose to 13 after the Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed that an Indian national who had been injured in the attack later died. The attack has intensified calls for closer regional coordination on security and defence matters.

‘Hero of Humanity’: Israel To Honour Captain Smit Machchhar With Presidential Civilian Heroism Award

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced that Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar will receive Israel’s Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, in recognition of his actions during the dramatic flydubai Flight FZ1073 incident on 30 September.

Herzog made the announcement while praising the Indian aviator for preventing what he described as a potential catastrophe and safeguarding everyone aboard the aircraft.

In a message shared on X, the Israeli President described Machchhar as a hero not only of Israel and India but of humanity as a whole.

He said he had conveyed his wishes for the pilot’s full and speedy recovery and looked forward to welcoming him to Jerusalem once he had regained his strength.

Herzog stated that, on behalf of the people of Israel, it would be an honour to personally present Machchhar with the Israeli Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism following his recovery.

In a letter dated 4 October, the President thanked the Indian pilot for his exceptional courage and determination in bringing the aircraft safely through the crisis.

Herzog noted that while reports of the incident resembled a thriller, the reality faced in the cockpit would have involved immense fear, urgency and danger.

He praised Machchhar for continuing to exercise sound judgement despite suffering severe injuries, describing his conduct as a reflection of remarkable character and bravery.

The Israeli leader also linked the pilot’s actions to the long-standing historical connection between India and Israel.

He observed that Indian troops who fought in the Holy Land more than a century ago became a lasting part of Israel’s history and said Machchhar’s heroism would likewise be remembered by future generations.

According to Herzog, the pilot’s actions further strengthened the friendship and goodwill that have developed between India and Israel in recent decades.

The President also expressed confidence that Machchhar was receiving excellent treatment in the United Arab Emirates and reiterated his hope for a complete recovery.

The award announcement came after Herzog honoured six Israeli civilians who helped prevent an alleged attempt to hijack and crash the aircraft.

During the ceremony in Jerusalem, he acknowledged that Machchhar’s courage, professionalism and determination had played the central role in averting disaster.

The six Israeli recipients of the Presidential Medal for Civilian Heroism were Tali Manes, Zvika Manes, Yaniv Hayoun, Dr Shota Musayev, Asaf Rajuan and Or Pardilov.

They were recognised for assisting in restraining the attacker and helping ensure the safety of passengers and crew during the emergency.

Machchhar is currently recovering in a hospital in Abu Dhabi after sustaining serious injuries during the mid-air confrontation.

According to reports, his Omani co-pilot, Hamam al-Hammami, launched a violent attack inside the cockpit.

Despite being wounded, the Indian captain reportedly succeeded in unlatching the cockpit door, enabling passengers and off-duty crew members to enter and overpower the attacker.

The confrontation triggered a rapid descent, with the aircraft reportedly losing around 16,000 feet in approximately two minutes before a hijacking distress signal was transmitted.

The flight was subsequently diverted and carried out an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

All 180 people on board, including passengers and crew, disembarked safely.

The incident drew international attention and widespread praise for Machchhar’s actions from political leaders, aviation experts and the public.

The Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism was established to recognise civilians who display extraordinary courage while risking their own lives to save others, making the honour particularly significant.

Reports indicate that Machchhar will become one of the very few non-Israeli citizens to receive the distinction, underlining the exceptional nature of his actions. The Indian Embassy in the UAE has remained in regular contact with the pilot, his family, hospital authorities and local officials, providing assistance throughout his recovery.

As Machchhar continues his rehabilitation, Israel has made clear that his actions aboard Flight FZ1073 will be remembered as an extraordinary act of courage that prevented a far greater tragedy and saved the lives of everyone on board.

Indian Crew of 22 Safe After Drone Strike On Oil Tanker Near Sharjah, Says Union Minister Sonowal

All 22 Indian seafarers aboard the Panama-flagged crude oil tanker MT GEM NO. 2 are safe after the vessel was struck in a drone attack while anchored off Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on 9 October, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

In a statement shared on X, Sonowal confirmed that the tanker, carrying 22 Indian nationals as crew members, had been targeted at Sharjah Anchorage. He said all crew members were reported safe and unharmed following the incident.

The minister added that Indian authorities were closely monitoring developments and remained in contact with the ship management company to ensure the continued safety, security and welfare of the seafarers onboard.

Sharjah Anchorage is situated in the Arabian Gulf near Dubai and serves as an important maritime anchorage area for commercial vessels operating in the region.

The attack comes amid renewed concerns over threats to commercial shipping across key maritime corridors, particularly in the Gulf region and the Black Sea. A series of incidents involving merchant vessels and seafarers has heightened international efforts to improve maritime security and protect global trade routes.

Against this backdrop, the Ministry of External Affairs recently highlighted the objectives of the newly established Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers (GoF on S4). The initiative aims to bring together maritime nations and industry stakeholders to strengthen international cooperation and place the protection of seafarers and commercial shipping at the centre of global discussions.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the group seeks to coordinate countries involved in commercial shipping, maritime commerce and seafaring communities. Its objective is to enhance cooperation, reduce risks to merchant vessels and ensure the safety and security of seafarers.

According to Jaiswal, the group's inaugural meeting was held in New York and was jointly chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti. Representatives from 25 countries participated in the discussions.

India and Liberia, serving as co-chairs of the initiative, jointly condemned attacks on commercial vessels and seafarers operating in the Gulf region, surrounding waters and the Black Sea. The two countries described such attacks as unjustifiable, warning that they disrupt maritime trade, threaten regional stability and result in the loss of innocent lives.

The joint statement called for an immediate halt to attacks on commercial shipping in the interests of peace, stability and the safety of maritime personnel. It also expressed condolences to the families of seafarers killed in recent incidents and wished those injured a swift recovery.

The Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers was launched by India and Liberia on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The initiative seeks to improve coordination among nations, prevent further attacks on merchant shipping and strengthen protections for seafarers worldwide.

Jaishankar has emphasised that India, one of the world's leading suppliers of seafarers, partnered with Liberia, home to the world's largest shipping registry by tonnage, to address mounting concerns over attacks on commercial vessels and merchant mariners.

He underscored the urgency of the issue, stating that attacks on commercial shipping and seafarers must end.

US Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Honours Indian Pilot Smit Machchhar In Congressional Record For Bravery During Flydubai Cockpit Attack

US Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has formally honoured Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar in the US Congressional Record, recognising what he described as extraordinary bravery during an alleged hijacking attempt aboard flydubai Flight FZ1073 on 30 September.

The Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight was carrying 180 occupants, including four US citizens and 27 children. According to the statement, the aircraft's first officer allegedly attacked Captain Machchhar with an emergency crash axe and attempted to take control of the aircraft while it was in flight.

The incident reportedly caused the aircraft to descend around 16,000 feet in roughly 30 seconds, creating a potentially catastrophic situation for everyone on board.

Despite sustaining severe injuries, Captain Machchhar managed to reach and open the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew members to enter the flight deck and overpower the attacker.

Two reserve flydubai pilots who were travelling on the aircraft subsequently took control and guided the flight safely to an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

In remarks entered into the Congressional Record on 9 October, Krishnamoorthi praised the captain's courage, professionalism and presence of mind, stating that his actions gave passengers and crew the opportunity to stop the attack and prevent a major disaster.

The Congressman also highlighted the human impact of the captain's actions, noting that every passenger aboard the flight was able to return safely to their loved ones because he refused to give up despite his injuries.

Krishnamoorthi called on fellow lawmakers to join him in recognising Captain Machchhar's heroism and extended best wishes to the pilot, his wife Sonal, their two children and their wider family, while expressing hope for his swift recovery.

The recognition comes shortly after Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that Captain Machchhar would receive Israel's Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism for helping to prevent the alleged attempt to crash the aircraft.

Herzog said the pilot's courage, professionalism and determination played a decisive role in averting a catastrophe. The President also honoured six Israeli civilians who assisted in thwarting the incident: Tali Manes, Zvika Manes, Yaniv Hayoun, Dr Shota Musayev, Asaf Rajuan and Or Pardilov.

Captain Machchhar is currently recovering in a hospital in Abu Dhabi after suffering serious injuries during the mid-air confrontation.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has said he is responding well to treatment and continuing to make progress. The Indian Embassy in the UAE has remained in close contact with his family, medical team and local authorities while extending all possible assistance.

Following the cockpit struggle, flydubai Flight FZ1073 was diverted to Tabuk, where all 180 occupants disembarked safely without injury, marking the successful conclusion of an incident that could otherwise have ended in tragedy.

US House Resolution Salutes Captain Smit Machchhar’s Bravery After Foiling Flydubai Terror Plot

The US House of Representatives has introduced a bipartisan resolution honouring Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his role in preventing an alleged terrorist attack aboard flydubai Flight 1073, while also recognising the courage of the crew and passengers who helped avert a potential catastrophe.

The resolution was introduced on 5 October by Congressmen Josh Gottheimer, Don Bacon and Michael McCaul and has been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. It honours Machchhar and all those involved in securing the aircraft, while condemning the incident as an act of terrorism.

Flight 1073 departed Dubai International Airport for Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on 30 September carrying about 174 passengers, including four US citizens and 27 children. Most of those on board were reported to be Israeli citizens.

According to the resolution, the aircraft’s first officer allegedly attacked Captain Machchhar in the cockpit with the plane’s emergency crash axe in an attempt to seize control of the flight. During the struggle, the aircraft suffered a dramatic loss of more than 14,000 feet in under 30 seconds, creating a major aviation emergency.

Despite sustaining severe injuries, Machchhar resisted the attack and managed to unlock the cockpit door. His actions enabled off-duty pilots travelling on board to enter the flight deck and assist in regaining control, while cabin crew members and passengers helped restrain the alleged attacker.

The aircraft was safely diverted to Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia, where it landed with all passengers and crew accounted for. The alleged assailant was subsequently detained.

The resolution notes that the Attorney General of the United Arab Emirates announced on 3 October that the Emirati investigation had concluded that the first officer had attempted to carry out a terrorist act.

Lawmakers praised Machchhar’s “extraordinary courage” in protecting everyone on board and commended the off-duty pilots, cabin crew and passengers whose swift intervention helped prevent disaster. The measure also wishes a full recovery to Machchhar and others injured during the incident.

In addition, the resolution calls for a full and expeditious investigation by Saudi Arabia and the UAE and urges that both the United States and Israel be kept informed of developments and findings.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE has stated that Captain Machchhar is making steady progress in his recovery and remains under close medical supervision. The mission said it is maintaining contact with his family, healthcare teams and local authorities while extending all possible assistance.

Messages of support have continued to pour in from across the world. The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi recently organised special prayers and an abhishek ceremony for the pilot’s recovery, with saints, volunteers and community members gathering to honour his actions and support his family.

The temple said prayers would continue until Machchhar has fully recovered, expressing hope that he will eventually visit the Abu Dhabi Mandir with his family.

Reports from Israeli and international media have stated that Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami allegedly intended to direct the aircraft towards Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. Israeli authorities reportedly treated the incident as a potential hijacking, scrambled fighter aircraft and temporarily heightened airspace security measures before determining that the flight had diverted towards Saudi Arabia.

Separate reports indicated that Saudi Arabia also dispatched fighter jets as the emergency unfolded. Israeli officials later stood down their response once it became clear the aircraft was preparing for an emergency landing rather than proceeding towards Tel Aviv.

US President Donald Trump later said he personally believed Iran was responsible for the attempted terrorist attack. However, no official investigation findings publicly released so far have attributed responsibility beyond the individual accused attacker.

The incident has attracted significant international attention, with Captain Machchhar receiving widespread praise from political leaders, aviation professionals and members of the public for actions credited with saving every life on board and preventing what could have become one of the most serious aviation security incidents in recent years.

Israel Was Prepared To Shoot Down Flydubai Jet After Mid-Air Cockpit Attack Threatened Tel Aviv

Israel was prepared to take the extraordinary step of shooting down a Flydubai passenger aircraft carrying more than 150 Israeli citizens after a violent cockpit attack raised fears of a potential hijacking and a possible strike against targets in Israel.

The crisis unfolded on September 30 aboard Flydubai Flight 1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami allegedly stabbed Captain Smit Machchhar and attempted to seize control of the aircraft.

As the struggle erupted in the cockpit, the aircraft entered a dramatic descent, reportedly losing around 16,000 feet in little more than 30 seconds. The sudden plunge triggered alarm within Israel's security establishment, which feared the aircraft could be heading towards a 9/11-style attack scenario.

Efforts by the Israeli Air Force to establish radio contact with the cockpit received no response. In response, emergency protocols were immediately activated.

Israeli authorities established a command centre, closed national airspace and scrambled fighter aircraft to assess the developing threat. The incident was treated as a possible hijacking involving an aircraft approaching Israeli territory.

According to reports, Israeli fighter pilots were prepared to intercept the aircraft and conduct close visual inspections of both the cockpit and passenger cabin if the jet had continued towards Tel Aviv.

Their objective would have been to determine whether the aircraft had been successfully hijacked and whether passengers appeared to be under duress.

Had a hijacking been confirmed and the attackers remained silent, the matter would have been escalated to Israel's top political leadership, including the Defence Minister and Prime Minister.

Under Israeli procedures, the authority to order the destruction of a civilian aircraft rests solely with the Prime Minister.

Israeli officials reportedly believed that, if necessary, the aircraft could have been intercepted before reaching major national targets such as Ben Gurion Airport or Tel Aviv's Azrieli Centre.

The situation changed when authorities determined that the aircraft had diverted away from Israel and was heading towards Saudi Arabia.

Israeli fighter jets were subsequently recalled, while Saudi Arabia scrambled its own aircraft as the emergency unfolded within the region's airspace.

The crisis was ultimately resolved through the actions of Captain Machchhar, who continued fighting despite suffering severe injuries after being attacked with a cockpit crash axe. The injured captain succeeded in unlocking the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew members to intervene.

Passengers then overpowered al-Hammami, ending the immediate threat inside the cockpit.

Two off-duty pilots travelling aboard the flight subsequently took control of the aircraft and safely diverted it to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, bringing one of the most serious aviation security incidents in recent years to a close.

Confirmed: Flydubai Co-Pilot Used Cockpit Crash Axe In Terrorist Attack Says UAE

The United Arab Emirates has formally described the dramatic incident aboard flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv as an attempted terrorist attack, stating that co-pilot Hamam Alhammami allegedly assaulted Captain Smit Machchhar with a cockpit crash axe and attempted to seize control of the aircraft.

According to investigators, Alhammami launched the attack while the Boeing 737 was cruising at around 34,000 feet, triggering a serious in-flight emergency aboard an aircraft carrying more than 170 passengers and crew, including 24 children.

A crash axe is standard emergency equipment carried in commercial aircraft cockpits under international aviation regulations.

The tool is intended for emergency situations, including gaining access through aircraft structures following accidents. Following the 9/11 attacks, such equipment was moved from passenger cabins to secured cockpit areas.

UAE prosecutors said the co-pilot attempted to take control of the aircraft after attacking the captain. Authorities have classified the incident as an attempted terrorist act and have launched a wider investigation into the suspect's motives, digital footprint and any potential links to extremist organisations. Investigators are also examining whether he acted alone or was influenced by a broader network.

The situation rapidly escalated as the aircraft entered a steep descent. Reports indicate the jet dropped from approximately 34,000 feet to around 15,600 feet, creating panic among passengers and crew.

Despite suffering severe injuries, Captain Machchhar reportedly managed to unlock the cockpit door, enabling cabin crew and passengers to intervene. Their actions helped overpower the attacker and prevent what officials and investigators believe could have become a catastrophic crash.

Video recorded inside the aircraft showed scenes of chaos, with the injured captain lying in a pool of blood while describing how he had been attacked by his co-pilot.

A passenger who was a dentist reportedly provided urgent medical assistance to Captain Machchhar while two relief flydubai pilots on board stepped in to assume control of the aircraft. The flight was subsequently diverted to Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.

The UAE Attorney General's office stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that findings will be released once all necessary legal and forensic procedures have been completed. The UAE is leading the probe, with international cooperation expected from other interested authorities.

Alhammami has been identified as an Omani national. Reports emerging after the incident indicate that he had previously faced restrictions on flying duties in Oman amid concerns that he had adopted extremist views.

According to those reports, he worked as a co-pilot trainee with Oman Air in 2024 and was allegedly found in possession of extremist material. He was subsequently transferred to an administrative role before leaving the airline in February 2025.

He later joined Royal Air Maroc in June 2025 before departing in January 2026. He then joined flydubai, where he served for approximately eight months before the incident.

The revelations have raised questions about aviation sector background-screening procedures and how an individual reportedly flagged over extremist concerns was subsequently able to secure flight-deck positions with other carriers, including on the politically sensitive UAE-Israel route.

Additional reports have suggested that investigators are examining claims that Alhammami may have intended to crash the aircraft in Israel, although authorities have not yet released final conclusions regarding the full scope of his alleged plans.

Captain Machchhar's actions, alongside the intervention of crew members, passengers and relief pilots, have been widely credited with preventing one of the most serious aviation security incidents in recent years. Several passengers and officials have described the Indian captain as a hero for continuing to fight for control of the situation despite sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Omani Co-Pilot's Alleged Al-Qaeda Indoctrination Under Scrutiny After Tel Aviv Flight Attack

Investigators examining the 30 September attack aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073 have reportedly uncovered evidence suggesting that Omani co-pilot Hamam Alhamami underwent indoctrination into Al-Qaeda ideology and held meetings with religious figures believed to have played a role in his radicalisation.

According to reports, Alhamami had previously been prevented from flying in Oman because of concerns over extremist views. Sources indicated that much of his time had been spent outside Oman, particularly in Syria, where he was allegedly exposed to radical influences before later relocating to the UAE.

Israeli and Arab media reports stated that investigators are treating the Syria connection as a significant element of the case. Concerns surrounding his ideological beliefs and aviation background have consequently become central to the wider terrorism investigation.

Sources cited by Israeli media said the co-pilot allegedly told investigators that he intended to crash the aircraft in Israel, raising fears of a potential mass-casualty event comparable to the 11 September attacks in the United States.

Further reports indicated that Oman Air had previously removed him from pilot training because of concerns about radical views. Although he was reportedly assigned another role, questions are now being raised about how he subsequently secured employment with Flydubai.

CNN reported that the suspect was born in the UAE to an Omani father and a Syrian mother and spent several years living in the Emirates. Additional reports suggested that concerns regarding his conduct had surfaced well before he joined Flydubai.

According to sources quoted by Fox News, Oman Air grounded the co-pilot in 2024 after discovering that he had been visiting radical Islamic websites. The same sources claimed that he later moved to Dubai and that Flydubai did not consult Oman Air before employing him.

The incident unfolded while the aircraft was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. During the cockpit assault, the aircraft reportedly descended around 16,000 feet within two minutes before a hijacking distress signal was transmitted.

Despite suffering serious injuries, Captain Smit Machchhar managed to resist the attack and open the cockpit door. Cabin crew members and passengers then entered the cockpit and helped restrain the attacker, enabling the flight crew to regain control.

Two off-duty aviators travelling on the flight also assisted in stabilising the situation before the aircraft made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. All 180 people on board disembarked safely.

Investigators are also examining material allegedly recovered from the co-pilot's belongings. Reports stated that leaflets and publications linked to Free Palestine groups, together with other pro-Palestinian material, were discovered and are being reviewed as part of the inquiry.

Media reports further alleged that the co-pilot had repeatedly expressed support for Palestinians and hostility towards Israel. Authorities are examining whether those views were connected to broader claims of Islamic radicalisation and possible terrorist motives.

The investigation is now focused not only on the events inside the cockpit but also on the sequence of developments that preceded them, including his reported time in Syria, concerns raised during previous employment, alleged extremist beliefs and the recruitment processes that enabled him to fly a passenger service bound for Tel Aviv.

Captain Machchhar's actions have drawn widespread praise. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended his courage and presence of mind, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described his conduct as instrumental in preventing what could have become another 9/11-style tragedy.

The suspect was subsequently transferred from Saudi Arabia to the UAE, where he is facing a terrorism investigation as authorities continue to examine the full scope of the incident and the factors that may have led to the alleged attack.

French Air Force Contingent Touches Down At IAF's Base For India's Premier Exercise 'Tarang Shakti 2026'

The French Air and Space Force contingent has landed at the Indian Air Force station in Jodhpur for India's premier multinational air exercise Tarang Shakti.

This exercise holds significant importance for France, which is why their personnel travelled across the globe to participate on time.

The French contingent brought four fighter jets from the other side of the world under their Pegase mission, arriving directly from Indonesia.

Because India is a crucial global strategic partner of France, the French side wanted to demonstrate its deep commitment to working side by side with Indian forces.

France brought four jets across the globe, having been in the Indo-Pacific region because France considers itself an Indo-Pacific nation, and is bringing three additional jets to field a total of seven Rafale aircraft.

These seven Rafale fighter jets will work side by side with the Indian Air Force to execute complex mission manoeuvres.

This partnership carries a long history of deep relations, as India was the first international buyer to acquire Marcel Dassault aircraft, purchasing the Ouragan or Toofani jets back in 1952.

More than 70 years later, French forces are glad to return to India operating the Rafale, an aircraft they take immense pride in and are keen to share expertise on. The French personnel are looking forward to training with Indian pilots, having previously trained together in France during the Garuda exercises.

This marks the second time France is participating in India's large force employment air combat exercise, aiming to show that France remains a highly credible partner.

The joint drills highlight that both nations operate what they regard as the finest multi-role fighter aircraft in the world.

Regarding discussions surrounding India potentially acquiring another 114 fighter aircraft, French officials emphasize that India is a sovereign nation free to buy from any international partner.

While the French Air and Space Force represents the military branch, the aircraft are built by Dassault Aviation, a company whose fighters have served both nations exceptionally well.

Operating the same aircraft side by side will naturally make tactical coordination easier and facilitate the exchange of operational best practices.

The Rafale entered service with the French Air and Space Force inventory in 2005, giving French aviators extensive operational experience and valuable lessons learned. French representatives expressed enthusiasm to help India gain the best operational insights on flying and maintaining this advanced fighter platform.

India possesses a long and distinguished history of air force operational excellence and elite pilot training, which makes large combat exercises like Tarang Shakti extremely productive.

Beyond operating French-built Rafales, India fields various other fighter aircraft platforms in its fleet, making joint interoperability a major focus area during the war games.

When asked about regional threats and adversaries flying advanced capabilities, French military officials highlighted that the Rafale is the most advanced weapon system in their inventory.

The Rafale has seen extensive combat action, including recent operations defending strategic partners in the Middle East with outstanding success.

Addressing changing regional dynamics, officials noted that the world is increasingly unpredictable and dangerous, making it crucial to be ready to fight anywhere at any time. Through global deployments like the Pegase mission, France engages with key partners so that joint operations can be seamlessly executed if required in future contingencies.

Having state-of-the-art aircraft is critical, but continuous rigorous training, tactics development, and human pilot interaction remain the ultimate edge in air combat.

Dassault Aviation has also expanded its industrial presence in India through joint ventures, investing thousands of crores of Rupees in local manufacturing initiatives under Make in India programs.

India's defence spending continues to grow significantly, allocating major budgetary outlays exceeding ₹6,00,000 crore annually for modernising armed forces, including new procurement programs. Logistics and supply chain networks support these deployed fighter contingents, moving hundreds of tons of equipment across international air corridors.

Defence tech start-ups across the country are also contributing to aviation innovation, developing cutting-edge systems and advanced drone capabilities.

Strategic industrial partnerships involve bilateral trade worth billions of dollars, translating to multi-crore investment projects in defence manufacturing across both countries. French officials stated that continuous yearly joint training allows both nations to adapt their tactical doctrines as aerial combat technologies evolve rapidly.

Regarding joint development efforts for next-generation combat aircraft, military personnel focused on immediate operational readiness while expressing confidence in collaborative future projects.
