IdeaForge Secures ₹151 Crore Government Loan For Project Yeti Heavy-Lift Drone Development

ideaForge Technology has finalised a definitive loan agreement with the Technology Development Board (TDB), operating under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, securing up to ₹151 crore in concessional funding for its flagship Project Yeti.
The agreement marks the transition from the earlier Letter of Intent stage to a fully executed financing arrangement, providing formal access to capital for the program.
The ₹151 crore loan will fund 50% of Project Yeti's estimated development cost of ₹302 crore. The facility carries a highly favourable simple interest rate of 4% and has a tenure of three years, offering the company a low-cost source of funding for advanced research and development activities while avoiding any dilution of existing shareholder equity.
Project Yeti is being developed as a heavy-lift autonomous aerial vehicle designed for demanding logistics operations. The platform is expected to carry payloads of up to 200 kg over distances of up to 200 km and is specifically engineered for high-altitude and challenging terrain environments.
The aircraft is intended to expand ideaForge's capabilities beyond its established intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations into tactical logistics and cargo transport applications.
The funding structure is milestone-linked, with loan disbursements dependent on the achievement of defined development objectives. The arrangement also requires matching support from internal or private sources, ensuring disciplined capital deployment and project execution throughout the development cycle.
The agreement represents a significant strategic milestone for ideaForge. Developing heavy-lift autonomous platforms requires substantial investment, and the availability of non-dilutive government-backed financing enables the company to continue building proprietary technologies while preserving balance sheet flexibility and ownership structure.
The project strengthens ideaForge's position within India's rapidly advancing drone ecosystem, which is increasingly moving beyond surveillance applications towards complex logistics, cargo transport and tactical mission requirements.
The company seeks to establish an early leadership position in indigenous high-altitude logistics solutions, an area expected to gain importance within future defence procurement and supply chain modernisation efforts.
The broader industry backdrop remains supportive, with government-led initiatives encouraging domestic development of advanced aerospace and unmanned systems technologies. Institutional support for indigenous innovation is helping strengthen local capabilities in strategic sectors, including autonomous aerial logistics and high-altitude operations.
Several key developments will be closely monitored as the project progresses. These include the first loan disbursement under the TDB framework, the successful completion of prototype and technology demonstration milestones, and further advancement of the Yeti development program.
The company continues to face certain operational and regulatory risks. Loan drawdowns remain dependent on milestone achievement and co-funding commitments. In addition, ideaForge is contesting a retrospective tax demand issued under Section 74 of the CGST Act by the Additional Commissioner of CGST Belapur.
The order seeks ₹54.59 crore in tax and an equivalent ₹54.59 crore penalty for FY22 to FY24, taking the total disputed amount to ₹109.17 crore. The company has indicated that it intends to challenge the order through the appropriate legal process, citing subsequent policy clarification regarding drone-related GST treatment.
Separately, ideaForge recently secured domestic civil mapping and survey contracts valued at ₹23.62 crore, with execution scheduled over six months, adding to its operational order pipeline.
Despite ongoing taxation-related challenges, the definitive execution of the ₹151 crore TDB loan agreement provides funding certainty for Project Yeti.
Successful delivery of the program would significantly enhance ideaForge's technological capabilities and strengthen its long-term competitive position in India's emerging heavy-lift drone and autonomous logistics market.
