Mistral Solutions Delivers Indigenous Unmanned Systems To Strengthen Indian Army Operations

Mistral Solutions has developed indigenous unmanned ground and aerial systems for the Indian Army, including advanced logistics drones and mobile command posts, aimed at strengthening operations in high-altitude and contested terrains.
These platforms are designed to reduce human risk, enhance battlefield awareness, and provide reliable transport and communication capabilities.
Mistral Solutions has emerged as a key defence technology provider with its focus on unmanned systems tailored for the Indian Army. Among its notable contributions is the Xherpa Heavy Payload Drone, a rugged, all-weather logistics platform capable of transporting essential supplies such as fuel, ammunition, food, and medical kits to forward posts in extreme conditions.
The drone can carry payloads of up to 50 kg, operate at altitudes ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 feet, and sustain flight for 45 minutes with a range of 20 km line-of-sight. Its design incorporates a 6061-aluminium chassis acting as a heatsink, coaxial rotors with six arms and twelve rotors for efficiency, and advanced multi-axial stabilisation to ensure smooth flight even in turbulent winds.
The Xherpa drone offers two payload options: an under-belly fixed payload and a hanging payload connected via a cargo hook for rapid release. This flexibility makes it suitable for diverse missions, from resupply in mountainous terrain to rapid deployment in emergencies.
The Ground Control Station (GCS) is equally advanced, built into rugged cases with dual-display options, HOTAS layouts, and customisable designs to meet specific operational needs.
In addition to logistics drones, Mistral has also developed the Special Ops Command Post (SOCP), a mobile AI-powered communication hub mounted on 4×4 or 6×6 platforms.
The SOCP integrates multiple military-grade and legacy communication systems, including radios from BEL, L3 Harris, and Motorola, alongside satellite connectivity and VoIP integration.
It provides real-time video monitoring, call logging, and resilient communication in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism missions. This system ensures frontline commanders have access to seamless interoperability, situational awareness, and instant decision-making capabilities.
The Indian Army’s interest in unmanned systems aligns with broader initiatives such as converting legacy T-72 tanks into autonomous armoured fighting vehicles under the iDEX ADITI 4.0 program.
Mistral’s innovations complement this trajectory by offering unmanned platforms that reduce exposure of personnel in high-risk missions, particularly in the challenging terrains of Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh where traditional logistics and reconnaissance have historically cost lives.
Mistral’s unmanned solutions are part of India’s wider push for indigenous defence technology under emergency procurement and innovation programs.
By integrating drones, unmanned ground vehicles, and mobile command systems, the Army is building a networked ecosystem where human operators make strategic decisions while machines absorb operational risks. This reflects the global trend of Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T), already adopted by advanced militaries worldwide.
