US President Donald Trump declared on Monday that Iran has been given a final opportunity to reach an agreement, stressing that Washington paused a planned military strike after receiving diplomatic requests from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran itself.

He made the remarks at the Oval Office after signing an Executive Order establishing the first-ever Presidential Military Spouse Commission.

Trump emphasised that the United States was prepared to launch a major military operation against Iran before diplomatic outreach prompted a pause. He described the moment as Iran’s “last chance” to sign a meaningful document, insisting that the talks were taking place at Tehran’s request, supported by regional allies. He noted that many countries had called to urge diplomacy, with Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar playing particularly prominent roles.

The President alleged that Iran had previously denied engaging in discussions despite holding extensive meetings with American officials. He described the situation as “amazing,” claiming that Iranian representatives sometimes denied talks even after spending hours in negotiations. He insisted that discussions were progressing, though Iran continued to publicly reject them.

Trump revealed that the United States had been ready to carry out a large-scale strike against Iran, which he said would have been harder than any attack since World War II.

He explained that calls from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, and others persuaded him to pause the operation. He added that Iran did not want to be hit and instead sought talks, particularly on denuclearisation, which he identified as Washington’s central objective.

He criticised previous administrations and other countries for failing to resolve the nuclear issue over decades, declaring that “it should have been done for 50 years.” He also referred to earlier US military operations against Iran, claiming that strikes involving B2 bombers more than a year ago had significantly degraded Tehran’s nuclear capabilities.

On Truth Social, Trump accused Iranian leaders of being “unbelievably duplicitous,” seeking talks with Washington while publicly denying negotiations. He reiterated that Iran would “never have a nuclear weapon” and asserted that the United States maintained complete control over access through the Strait of Hormuz until an agreement or “total surrender” was achieved.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei rejected reports of direct or indirect negotiations with the United States, insisting that Tehran was not engaged in bilateral talks. He clarified that an understanding with Oman regarding a new maritime traffic route through the Strait of Hormuz was purely technical, aimed at vessel safety, and did not signal the reopening of the strategic waterway.

Separately, Trump highlighted his new initiative to support military families. While signing the Executive Order, he announced the creation of the Presidential Military Spouse Commission, describing it as a major step to strengthen support for military families and thanking those present for their contributions.
