Foreign Affairs Expert Robinder Sachdev has underlined that India is carefully noting which countries have supported it in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently raised the issue of terrorism at international forums, calling for a unified fight against the menace without hypocrisy or double standards.

Sachdev stressed that while India has extended gratitude to nations that expressed solidarity, it is also recording the silence of those who refrained from standing by it.

The latest Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit reflected a tougher stance, with member states collectively condemning the Pahalgam attack, expressing condolences to victims’ families, and calling for perpetrators, organisers, and sponsors to be held accountable.

The declaration further rejected the exploitation of extremist groups for political or strategic interests, underscored the principle of sovereign responsibility in counter-terrorism efforts, and opposed double standards in addressing militancy.

The SCO also acknowledged other global challenges, including the recent Jaffar Express and Khuzdar attacks in Balochistan and ongoing conflicts in West Asia.

Notably, India had earlier declined to endorse an SCO joint declaration in China on June 26, as it omitted reference to the Pahalgam attack but mentioned incidents in Pakistan, a decision reflecting New Delhi’s firm stance on unequivocal acknowledgment of terrorism directed at its own citizens.
