External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday extended warm wishes to Ukraine as the country marked its Independence Day. He expressed optimism about further strengthening bilateral ties between New Delhi and Kiev.

In a post on X, he greeted the people of Ukraine and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, stating, “Felicitations to FM @andrii_sybiha, the Government and people of Ukraine on their Independence Day. Look forward to further deepening our bilateral partnership.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier met in June this year on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France. The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to restore trade and expand economic ties.

PM Modi emphasised that India and Ukraine have been engaging extensively in recent times, with cooperation reflected across different areas. He reiterated India’s commitment to peace, stressing that humanity must remain the guiding principle in global affairs.

The bilateral meeting in Evian was attended by External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Modi highlighted that both leaders agreed trade ties should be restored to pre-war levels, underscoring the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts.

In July, Jaishankar and his Ukrainian counterpart Sybiha exchanged views on developments in the Black Sea. Jaishankar condemned attacks on commercial shipping and Indian seafarers, calling such actions unacceptable.

He reaffirmed India’s consistent advocacy for dialogue and diplomacy between the parties involved. His remarks reflected India’s concern for the safety of its nationals and its broader commitment to international maritime security.

On India’s Independence Day, Sybiha lauded the ties between Ukraine and India. He shared his vision and commitment to further strengthen political dialogue, deepen bilateral relations, and expand cooperation. He emphasised Ukraine’s readiness to continue engaging with India in advancing peace and building a stronger partnership.

The India-Ukraine relationship has gained renewed momentum in recent months, with both sides exploring avenues to revive economic exchanges, enhance political dialogue, and collaborate in areas such as technology, education, and energy.

India has consistently maintained its position of supporting peace and stability, while Ukraine has expressed appreciation for India’s balanced approach and willingness to engage constructively.

This growing partnership reflects the shared aspirations of both nations to navigate complex geopolitical challenges while prioritising mutual interests.

The reaffirmation of ties on Ukraine’s Independence Day underscores the importance both countries attach to their relationship and signals optimism for deeper cooperation in the future.
