A Panama-flagged cargo ship named MV Ocean Winner sank in the Bay of Bengal yesterday, triggering a major rescue operation by the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy.

The vessel had 24 crew members on board, comprising twenty Chinese nationals, three Myanmarese, and one Bangladeshi. Officials confirmed that the ship went down approximately 240 nautical miles off the Odisha coast.

The ship was transporting 72,100 metric tons of iron ore fines from Odisha to Singapore. It had departed from Paradip coast at 10.42 pm on 20 August. Shortly after leaving port, the vessel encountered distress and eventually sank in deep waters.
