Kepler Aerospace has secured ₹66.4 crores in seed funding, one of the largest early-stage investments in Indian space-tech, to deploy its first six autonomous swarm satellites for military surveillance.

This marks a major leap in India’s defence space infrastructure, with the satellites expected to cut intelligence turnaround times from weeks to mere hours.

Kepler Aerospace, a Bangalore-based space infrastructure and mission operations Start-Up, has raised ₹66.4 crores in a seed round led by Blue Ashva Capital, with Finvolve and India Accelerator co-leading. This is the company’s first external funding since its founding in 2018, and it stands among the largest seed rounds in India’s space-tech sector.

The funds will be used to launch Kepler’s first six satellites, designed to operate as an autonomous swarm. These satellites can task each other in orbit without human intervention, a capability that will significantly enhance India’s defence surveillance. The funding will also support scaling of Kepler’s satellite-hardware and ground-infrastructure businesses.

Kepler was founded by chief executive Navneet Singh and chief strategy officer Kiran Sharma. Singh worked on India’s nanosatellite program at ISRO, while Sharma contributed to a lunar nano-rover project at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Their combined expertise has shaped Kepler’s vision of building sovereign space capabilities.

The company already holds two prime contracts under the government’s Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) scheme, backed by about ₹33.2 crores in grants awarded two years ago. These contracts focus on building swarming satellite constellations for India’s defence establishment.

Singh confirmed that Kepler has cleared the preliminary design review and mission design review for the satellites, with a critical design review targeted for January. The company is in discussions with multiple global and domestic launch providers, aiming for a first launch in December 2027.

The satellites, meant for the Defence Space Agency, will carry electronic-warfare, electro-optical, and thermal sensors. Singh explained that they can autonomously detect targets such as ships or mobile air-defence systems and cue other satellites in the cluster to image and track them, without waiting for ground station instructions.

This could reduce intelligence delivery times from India’s current turnaround of about six weeks to just a few hours. Singh contrasted this with China’s satellite network, which can refresh surveillance of India’s northern border areas every eight minutes, thanks to its larger fleet.

Kepler’s older businesses, including satellite components such as a sub-10-gram onboard GPS system, satellite communication hardware, military avionics, and “mission operations as a service” through a network of over 70 ground stations, contributed about 90% of its ₹8.3 crores revenue last year.

Its newer satellite-intelligence business made up the rest. Singh expects intelligence services to grow to 60–70% of revenue within three years, once all six satellites are operational by mid-2028.

The company’s client base includes ISRO, L&T, Bellatrix Aerospace, and Take Me To Space for satellite hardware, as well as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment for avionics.

Notably, Kepler provides the communication system on the Abhyas target drone.

Kepler plans to add about 40 employees over the next 12–24 months and is moving into a new integration and mission-control facility in Bangalore’s Whitefield area. This expansion will strengthen its engineering and operational capacity.

The funding round underscores investor confidence in Kepler’s autonomous swarming satellite architecture. Satya Bansal of Blue Ashva Capital described it as a sovereign capability that collapses the intelligence cycle from days to minutes, fundamentally changing how nations can perceive and respond to threats.
