Israel-based DSIT Solutions and Tata Power SED are set to jointly deliver 78 units of the PointShield portable diver detection sonar (PDDS) to the Indian Navy under a procurement program known as ‘Buy Make India’.

The procurement initiative will see some of the sonars supplied directly by DSIT, while the remaining units will be developed by TATA Power SED in India under DSIT’s supervision and support.

DSIT Solutions CEO Benny Sela said: “We see this order as an important vote of confidence in our superior technology by the Indian Navy choosing us to protect their fleet against underwater threats.

The two companies were selected by the Indian Ministry of Defense (MoD) following a tender process that involved series of sea trials, technical evaluations and commercial bidding.

DSIT Solutions Sales and Marketing vice-president Dan Ben Dov said: “This significant order strengthens DSIT’s position as the market leader in the field of underwater security.

“It shows the growing concern among navies, coastguards and other organisations, seeking to protect their coastal and offshore critical sites and vessels from underwater intrusion and sabotage.”

The DSIT’s AquaShield and PointShield systems are currently used by several customers worldwide.

The systems are designed to support the automatic detection, tracking and classification of all types of underwater threats.
