Indian Army's Spear Corps Nears Mt Gorichen Summit In Arunachal Pradesh

The Indian Army’s elite Spear Corps is in the final phase of its high-altitude expedition to Mount Gorichen, the tallest peak in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang sector at 6,488 metres.
The mission, launched on August 20, has been designed as both a test of endurance and a symbolic demonstration of resilience, team spirit, and the indomitable ethos of the Indian soldier.
Progress since the flag-off has involved carefully planned acclimatisation phases, technical climbs, and high-altitude training, each executed under extreme conditions of steep ascents, unpredictable Himalayan weather, and treacherous terrain.
The expedition carries deep cultural significance, as Mt Gorichen is revered by the local Monpa community as a sacred peak and represents a convergence of military determination with regional spiritual heritage.
By attempting this climb, the Army is not only showcasing its operational fitness and adaptability but also honouring the traditions and natural treasures of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Defence spokesperson highlighted that the team has demonstrated remarkable endurance, courage, and mountaineering proficiency, embodying professionalism and preparedness that define the organisation’s operational character.
Beyond its physical objectives, the expedition has been envisioned as a civil–military bridge, raising awareness of mountaineering as a discipline and inspiring the youth of the region.
By promoting values of discipline, courage, and perseverance, the Army seeks to reinforce its role as a source of national pride, while contributing to nation-building through adventure.
The challenging mission underscores the Army’s commitment to instilling resilience, fostering unity, and motivating future generations, while marking another milestone in its tradition of service, grit, and inspiration at the highest frontiers of India.
