VASCO: Second offshore patrol vessel named Sujith was launched on Saturday by Seema Mittal, the wife of Sanjiv Mittal, the controller general of Defence Accounts. 

Goa Shipyard Limited is the trusted partner of Indian Coast Guards in making such vessels said the Coast Gurad officials present at the ceremony.

On Saturday, the offshore patrol vessel was launched at GSL premise in presence of Coast Guard officials and other GSL dignitaries. In a ceremonial function, the vessel was named Sujith and later GSL officials spoke about the works and capabilities they have inculcated over the years in the shipbuilding and other domain.

GSL CMD B B Nagpal said GSL has tried its best to deliver the ships within the contractual time limit. “65 percent of the work of this vessel has been completed and we are well on course for delivery by June 2020. Two such similar ships in recent past were exported to Sri Lanka. I acknowledge the constructive role of Unions and associations for positive work environment in shipyard,” he said.

Commander R Venkatesh, Indian Coast Guard said that Indian Coast guard since its inception is trying to combat piracy and efforts to strengthen maritime security. “We have a fleet of 140 ships. GSL has contributed in building up fleets for Coast Guards,” he said.
