A day after S Jaishankar officially took charge of Ministry of External Affairs, he addressed the grievances of several Indians facing issues abroad on Twitter.

Following the footsteps of former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, S Jaishankar was quick to respond to the grievances of Indians on Twitter.

A Twitter user, who marked Jaishankar in her tweet, had asked the new External Affairs Minister to help her find her husband in Kuwait. She went on to claim that her husband is not "responding to court summons" in the middle-east country.

Jaishankar was quick to reply to her tweet and said: "Our Embassy in Kuwait is already working on it. Please be in touch with them."

In another instance, Jaishankar promised an Indian family to help find their passports that were lost in Italy during the trip.

In his first tweet after assuming charge on Sunday, S Jaishankar thanked everyone for their good wishes and said he was proud to follow on the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj.

"My first tweet. Thank you all for the best wishes! Honoured to be given this responsibility. Proud to follow on the footsteps of @SushmaSwaraj ji," tweeted S Jaishankar on Saturday morning.

Jaishankar, 1977-batch IFS officer, succeeded Sushma Swaraj in the ministry, where he had served as a foreign secretary from 2015-2018.

Jaishankar is the first foreign secretary to head the MEA as minister.

Considered an expert on China and the US, the new External Affairs minister's moves will be keenly watched to see whether he brings any changes in India's approach in dealing with a hostile Pakistan.

Jaishankar was India's ambassador to the US when Modi visited in September 2014 and made the famous speech before a packed Madison Square Garden in New York.

A major focus of the ministry under his leadership is likely to be on further boosting India's trade and defence ties with the US, Russia, France, Japan and the European Union as well as with the countries of the neighbourhood.
