Prime Minister Narendra Modi met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in New Delhi, marking a significant moment in India-Germany relations as both countries celebrate 25 years of their Strategic Partnership.

The leaders emphasised the immense potential to build on mutually beneficial cooperation, highlighting diverse sectors such as trade, technology, innovation, sustainability, manufacturing, and mobility. Modi noted that India and Germany, as vibrant democracies and leading economies, share a common vision for a multipolar world, global peace, and comprehensive UN reforms.

Foreign Minister Wadephul welcomed the progress made in bilateral ties, especially in security, defense, skilled labor, and economic engagement, following substantial talks with PM Modi. He underscored the appreciation for India's advocacy of a ceasefire in Ukraine and discussed international developments, including the Ukraine conflict, and Europe’s ongoing efforts for a swift resolution.

Wadephul commended India's balanced approach in global affairs, particularly Modi's recent dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the SCO summit, where both sides called for a rapid peace settlement in Ukraine.

The German FM also held discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, reinforcing the strategic nature of India's relationships with multiple global partners and acknowledging the need for open, honest exchanges on areas of divergence.

Both sides reiterated a commitment to enhancing consultation mechanisms, particularly regarding the Indo-Pacific region, reflecting shared interests in regional security and stability. Wadephul emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration, recognising that peace forms the foundation for security, freedom, and prosperity, amidst continuing global challenges.

These high-level engagements and candid dialogues underscore the strengthening of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership, with both nations pledging increased cooperation and working together on pressing global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, developments in the Middle-East, and regional stability in Asia.
