Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi And Bangladesh Envoy Discuss Defence Cooperation

Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, met with India’s Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, in New Delhi to discuss avenues for strengthening defence cooperation.
Their talks centred on expanding joint training initiatives and exploring new opportunities for collaboration that could contribute to regional peace and stability. Both sides emphasised the importance of deepening military-to-military engagement as part of the broader strategic partnership between the two neighbours.
The Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information highlighted the meeting on social media, noting that the discussions were aimed at enhancing bilateral defence ties.
Hamidullah himself reflected on the meeting, describing it as a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the importance of defence collaboration within the wider framework of Bangladesh–India relations.
This engagement follows recent remarks by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, who underscored the resilience and forward-looking nature of Indo-Bangladesh ties during Bangladesh’s Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi.
Singh paid tribute to the shared sacrifices of the 1971 Liberation War, stressing that the legacy of solidarity continues to underpin cooperation between the two nations. He described the partnership as strategic, people-focused, and rooted in trust and shared values.
Bangladesh’s Independence Day was portrayed as a defining moment in the shared history of the two countries, symbolising self-determination and resilience.
Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s peace, stability, and prosperity, while also recognising the deep cultural bonds and historical ties that continue to shape the bilateral relationship.
The meeting between Hamidullah and General Dwivedi thus fits into a broader narrative of enduring cooperation, where defence collaboration is seen not only as a matter of strategic necessity but also as a reflection of the historical and cultural bonds that unite India and Bangladesh.
The emphasis on joint training and regional security highlights the shared vision of both nations in addressing common challenges and promoting stability across South Asia.
