Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh co-chaired the India–UK Defence Consultative Group Meeting with Permanent Under Secretary for Defence of the United Kingdom Jeremy Pocklington in New Delhi.

The two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral defence cooperation. The discussions placed particular emphasis on Defence Research and Development, industrial collaboration, and military exchanges.

The meeting was held under the framework of the India–UK Vision 2035. This vision outlines long-term strategic objectives for cooperation in defence and security.

The talks also reaffirmed the commitment to the 10-Year Defence Industrial Roadmap. This roadmap is designed to strengthen co-development and co-production of defence technologies and equipment.

Both delegations reiterated their commitment to mutual security. They underlined the importance of strategic autonomy in shaping defence partnerships.

The Defence Consultative Group serves as a key mechanism for institutional dialogue. It provides a structured platform for reviewing progress and setting new priorities in defence cooperation.

The focus on Defence R&D reflects the growing importance of innovation in military modernisation. India and the UK are exploring joint research programs in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, cyber defence, and space security.

Industrial collaboration is being advanced through partnerships between defence companies and Start-Ups in both nations. This aligns with India’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative and the UK’s drive to strengthen its global defence industrial base.

Military exchanges remain a cornerstone of cooperation. Regular joint exercises, officer training programs, and subject matter expert exchanges are being expanded to enhance interoperability between the armed forces.

The reaffirmation of strategic autonomy highlights the shared vision of both nations. India and the UK are committed to building a partnership that supports independent decision-making while contributing to regional and global stability.

The meeting in New Delhi builds upon recent high-level engagements. These include the Executive Steering Group meetings, defence industry dialogues, and collaborative visits to defence establishments in London, Stevenage, and Bangalore.

The Defence Consultative Group discussions demonstrate the momentum in India–UK defence ties. They reflect a deliberate effort to integrate operational cooperation with industrial and technological collaboration.

The roadmap agreed upon is expected to lead to deeper institutional engagement. It will also support the long-term goal of building a comprehensive strategic partnership that extends beyond traditional military cooperation.
