Bharat Electronics Limited has signed a significant export purchase order with Elbit Systems Electro-Optics ELOP Ltd for the production and supply of sub-assemblies of Directed Infrared Countermeasure systems. The agreement marks a major step in BEL’s growing role as a global supplier of advanced defence technologies.

The signing took place on 16 September 2026 in Bangalore. The agreement was formalised by Rajnish Sharma, Director of BEL’s Bangalore Complex, and Shai Cohen, Senior Vice President of Elbit Systems.

Senior officials from both organisations were present at the ceremony. BEL’s Director (Marketing), Anoop Kumar Rai, and Elbit’s Head of DIRCM Systems, Bnaya Ziv, attended the signing, underscoring the importance of the partnership.

Directed Infrared Countermeasure systems, also referred to as IR Jammers, are laser-based defensive technologies designed to protect aerial platforms from heat-seeking, shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, commonly known as MANPADS.

These systems are critical for safeguarding aircraft during vulnerable phases of flight such as take-off, cruising and landing.

The DIRCM technology represents one of the most advanced defensive measures currently deployed by modern air forces. It provides a decisive edge in countering asymmetric threats posed by portable missile systems, which have become increasingly accessible to non-state actors.

BEL’s collaboration with Elbit Systems highlights India’s expanding footprint in the global defence supply chain. The export order not only strengthens BEL’s international partnerships but also demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver high-quality sub-assemblies for complex defence systems.

This agreement is expected to further enhance BEL’s reputation as a trusted supplier of defence electronics, while also contributing to India’s broader strategic objective of increasing defence exports.
