DAC Clears Indigenous 6x6 HMV Procurement Under Buy (Indian-IDDM) Category

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of 6x6 High Mobility Vehicles (HMV) on 22 September 2026 under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
The procurement places a strong emphasis on self-reliance and indigenous manufacturing, aligning with India's ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic defence production capabilities.
Under the approved requirement, the platform must achieve a minimum Indigenous Content (IC) level of 80%, ensuring that the vast majority of the vehicle's value is sourced within India.
In addition, at least 50% Indigenous Content is mandated in materials, components and software, reinforcing the focus on local supply chains, domestically developed technologies and indigenous engineering expertise.
The Buy (Indian-IDDM) category remains the highest-priority acquisition route for indigenous defence procurement, promoting equipment that is designed, developed and manufactured in India.
The proposed 6x6 High Mobility Vehicles are expected to support military mobility, logistics and operational deployment across varied and challenging terrain, while contributing to the expansion of India's indigenous defence industrial base.
The AoN represents an in-principle approval for the procurement requirement and marks a key step in the acquisition process before subsequent tendering and contracting stages.
