Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin visited Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh during his official visit to India from 5 to 7 October, describing the newly operational facility as a “Swiss touch” in India due to its association with Flughafen Zürich, the operator of Zurich Airport.

Accompanied by Switzerland’s Ambassador to India, Maya Tissafi, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Electronics and IT Sunil Kumar Sharma, and a high-level delegation of government officials and business leaders, Parmelin toured several key areas of the airport on Tuesday.

The delegation inspected the passenger terminal, air traffic control facilities and critical airside infrastructure, gaining first-hand exposure to the airport’s design, technology and operational systems.

In a post following the visit, Parmelin highlighted that the airport is operated by a subsidiary of Flughafen Zürich, describing it as a Swiss contribution to India’s rapidly expanding aviation infrastructure. He noted that he had the opportunity to visit the airport after it began operations in June alongside Minister Sharma.

Parmelin also pointed to the airport’s long-term ambitions, stating that it is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers annually once fully developed, underlining its significance for the region’s future connectivity and economic growth.

During the visit, the Swiss delegation was received by the leadership teams of Noida International Airport and Zurich Airport International AG. Officials presented the airport’s development journey, sustainability initiatives, passenger-focused operating philosophy and future expansion plans.

The engagement also showcased the Uttar Pradesh government’s continued emphasis on attracting investment and promoting infrastructure-led development. Airport representatives highlighted their plans to deliver a modern, seamless and efficient travel experience while strengthening regional connectivity.

Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, said it was a privilege to host Parmelin and the accompanying delegation. He noted that the visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate the progress achieved so far and outline the vision guiding the airport’s long-term development.

Schnellmann added that, drawing upon Zurich Airport’s international expertise, the airport remains focused on delivering safe, efficient and passenger-centric operations that will serve the Delhi-NCR region and Uttar Pradesh for decades to come.
