Munabao-Khokhrapar rail line train

After India agreed to extend the Munabao-Khokhrapar rail line, the Pakistan foreign office said today the rail link is essential for improving relations between the two countries.

"The government of Pakistan has agreed to extend the agreement of the rail link between Munabao (India)and Khokhrapar (Pakistan) for another three years," the Pakistan foreign office said in a statement.

The move comes amid continued ceasefire violations along the line of control (LoC) in J&K. India and Pakistan troops have been repeatedly firing at each others position in Poonch, Nowshera and Keri.

"The rail link facilitates people-to-people contact that Pakistan believes is essential for improving relations between the two countries," the foreign office added.

The agreement was set to expire in March 2018, but has now been extended to January 31, 2021.
The Munabao-Khokhrapar link was destroyed during the 1965 war, the service was revived after 41 years in February 2006.
