A high-level all-party Indian parliamentary delegation, led by NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, concluded a significant visit to Egypt as part of a broader diplomatic outreach following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

The delegation’s mission was to brief international partners on India’s response to the attack, reinforce India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, and strengthen bilateral ties with Egypt in areas of peace, trade, and culture.

During their visit, the delegation held a constructive meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. Minister Abdelatty unequivocally condemned the Pahalgam attack, expressing Egypt’s solidarity with India and stressing that such acts of terror against civilians are intolerable. He emphasised the historic nature of India-Egypt relations and called for further enhancement of economic cooperation to match the already strong political ties between the two nations.

Supriya Sule, while interacting with local leaders and think tanks in Cairo, expressed gratitude to the Egyptian leadership for their unwavering support during India’s recent crisis. She highlighted that Egypt was among the first countries to reach out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and offer reassurances, standing firmly with India against terrorism.

Sule also outlined the Indian government’s efforts to promote global understanding of the situation, noting that Prime Minister Modi had dispatched seven parliamentary delegations to multiple countries to present India’s perspective and foster international solidarity.

The visit included meetings with key Egyptian parliamentarians, opinion makers, and the Indian community, as well as a floral tribute at the Heliopolis War Memorial to honour Indian soldiers who served in World Wars I and II. Sule underscored the deep civilizational ties between India and Egypt, referencing their shared heritage as homes to two of the world’s ancient wonders and civilizations.

The delegation’s outreach comes at a particularly challenging time for India, following the traumatic events in Pahalgam. Sule recalled India’s longstanding efforts to maintain peace in the region, including outreach initiatives to Pakistan, and reiterated India’s commitment to peace, harmony, and growth for all.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister’s reassurances and the warm reception received by the delegation reflected the strength and depth of the India-Egypt partnership, particularly in the shared fight against terrorism and in fostering broader cooperation for mutual benefit.
