PM Modi, French President Exchange Views On Recent Efforts To Bring An End To Ukraine Conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephonic conversation on September 6, 2025, reviewing the progress of bilateral cooperation in economic, defence, science, technology, and space sectors.
They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-France Strategic Partnership along frameworks like the Horizon 2047 Roadmap, the Indo-Pacific Roadmap, and the Defence Industrial Roadmap.
The two leaders exchanged views on international and regional issues, focusing particularly on recent efforts to bring an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. PM Modi reiterated India's consistent support for a peaceful resolution and the early restoration of peace and stability in Ukraine.
PM Modi expressed appreciation to President Macron for accepting India's invitation to the AI Impact Summit scheduled for February 2026, anticipating the opportunity to welcome him in India. Both leaders agreed to maintain close communications to promote global peace and stability.
This conversation is part of ongoing diplomatic engagement, including prior discussions within the month concerning peaceful resolutions to conflicts including Ukraine. The French President recently announced at a Paris summit plans to deploy a "reassurance force" involving 26 countries to support Ukraine's security contingent on a ceasefire.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P Harish, emphasised the necessity of dialogue and diplomacy at the UN General Assembly earlier that week, echoing PM Modi's stance that loss of innocent lives is unacceptable and highlighting that no solution can be found through military means on the battlefield.
PM Modi maintains communication with Russian President Putin, Ukrainian President Zelensky, and European leaders regarding the situation.
Thus, the India-France dialogue reflects a shared commitment to peaceful diplomacy and enhancing bilateral strategic cooperation amid ongoing global security challenges, including the Ukraine conflict.
