Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a crucial high-level meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to assess the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This meeting is part of a series of periodic reviews initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to maintain vigilance and strengthen counter-terror operations across the Union Territory.

The meeting will be attended by key officials including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, and J&K Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat. Senior representatives from the Army, Central Armed Police Forces, and intelligence agencies are also expected to join the deliberations, either in person or through secure conferencing.

The primary agenda will revolve around reviewing the evolving security dynamics in the Pir Panjal region, which has recently witnessed increased incidents of infiltration and attempts by terror groups to revive networks. Officials will examine intelligence inputs, cross-border movement patterns, and the current status of anti-terror operations being conducted jointly by the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police.

Besides security, the meeting will also assess the pace of ongoing developmental projects in the Union Territory. The government aims to ensure that the drive for infrastructure development, job creation, and tourism revival continues unhindered despite security challenges. Special attention will be given to ensuring that rural areas affected by militancy benefit from central development initiatives.

According to officials, Amit Shah is expected to reiterate the government’s “zero tolerance” policy toward terrorism. He is likely to direct all security and intelligence agencies to maintain the highest level of coordination and preparedness, particularly in the run-up to the forthcoming winter months when infiltration attempts typically increase.

Emphasis will be placed on dismantling local support networks, neutralising sleeper cells, and curbing the movement of arms and narcotics across the Line of Control.

The meeting follows a series of anti-terror operations launched after the Pahalgam terror attack in April, which had triggered an intensified campaign to dismantle terrorist modules across the Valley and adjoining regions. Since then, multiple encounters have been reported, with significant seizures of arms and explosives.

The security apparatus has also stepped up measures to restore a sense of normalcy and to ensure the safety of the growing number of domestic and international tourists visiting the region.

This review underscores the Centre’s continued commitment to both the security and socio-economic transformation of Jammu and Kashmir. Amit Shah has repeatedly stressed that sustained peace and stability are essential for the UT’s full integration into the national growth agenda. The outcomes of this meeting are expected to shape forthcoming tactical deployments and civilian outreach programmes aimed at ensuring peace and prosperity in the region.
