Exicom has unveiled a state-of-the-art Dismounted Soldier System for India’s elite Para Special Forces, integrating advanced communications, situational awareness, power management, and battlefield networking.

This marks a decisive leap in India’s soldier modernisation program, aligning with its ambitions for network-centric warfare and enhanced survivability in high-risk combat environments.

The system is designed to transform the way dismounted soldiers operate in asymmetric and high-intensity battlefields.

It provides secure, mobile, ad-hoc communications that ensure uninterrupted connectivity even while on the move. This capability is vital in modern warfare where adversaries employ electronic and cyber tactics to disrupt conventional communication channels.

At its core, the system features squad data radios compatible with ATAK, CIVTAK, and WINTAK situational awareness applications. These radios operate in narrow channel bandwidths down to 1.25 MHz, enabling extreme range performance at very low power. This ensures soldiers can share position location information (PLI), mapping data, mission plans, and messaging without reliance on external infrastructure, thereby strengthening squad-level situational awareness.

The system incorporates Exicom’s proprietary COFDM mesh waveforms, delivering high-bandwidth full-motion video from helmet and body-worn cameras, low-latency full-duplex voice, and seamless data sharing. This ensures real-time decision-making and mission coordination, critical for Para SF units operating deep behind enemy lines.

A key advantage is load reduction. By integrating manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T), soldiers can rely on unmanned vehicles to carry supplies, ammunition, or evacuate casualties. These vehicles, equipped with Exicom mesh radios, act as mobile controller nodes, extending the network and reducing the physical burden on troops.

The system also prioritises security and survivability. It employs AES-256 encryption alongside Low Probability of Intercept (LPI), Low Probability of Detection (LPD), and Low Probability of Exploitation (LPE) features. These measures protect communications from interception and jamming, ensuring operational secrecy in contested electromagnetic environments.

Power management is optimised through low Size, Weight, Power, and Cost (SWaP-C) design, enabling longer mission endurance without compromising mobility. This is crucial for Para SF soldiers who often operate in remote, hostile terrains with limited resupply options.

The Dismounted Soldier System enhances interoperability with existing Indian Army networks such as the Army Data Network (ADN) and AWAN. This ensures seamless integration across legacy and modern systems, supporting India’s broader digitisation of the battlefield.

Exicom’s innovation reflects India’s growing emphasis on indigenous defence technologies under the Make in India initiative. By reducing dependence on foreign systems, India strengthens its self-reliance while equipping its elite forces with cutting-edge tools for modern warfare.
