Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held separate bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Brazil and Egypt on the sidelines of the BRICS India 2026 Trade and Industry Ministers’ Meeting in Jaipur. The discussions focused on deepening trade, investment, and sectoral cooperation between India and these partner nations.

Goyal met Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Marcio Fernando Elias Rosa. The talks centred on strengthening the India‑Brazil trade and economic partnership.

They explored opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, energy, and pharmaceuticals. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding trade and investment ties, recognising the potential for collaboration across diverse sectors.

In another engagement, Goyal met Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem Ali Maher. Their discussions highlighted complementarities between the two economies and explored joint opportunities for cooperation. Goyal emphasised the huge potential for expanding economic ties between India and Egypt, noting the importance of building stronger industrial and trade linkages.

These bilateral meetings took place as the Tenth BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting concluded successfully under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 in Jaipur. The meeting was held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Industry ministers and senior representatives from BRICS member countries discussed strengthening industrial capabilities, technological transformation, and collaborative growth.

One of the key outcomes of the ministerial meeting was the adoption of the Joint Declaration of the Tenth BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting. This declaration reflected the collective commitment of member countries to translate dialogue into practical cooperation. It underscored the importance of resilience, innovation, and sustainability in industrial development.

India highlighted progress made under its BRICS Chairship through the Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR). This included the finalisation of the Framework for Cooperation in the SME Working Group, adoption of the Terms of Reference and Action Plan for the Photovoltaic Industry Working Group, and an innovation‑led growth action plan for start-ups. These initiatives are designed to strengthen industrial collaboration and promote innovation across BRICS economies.

India is also hosting the 16th BRICS Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Jaipur on 7 August. Discussions at this meeting are focused on strengthening the multilateral trading system, building resilient supply chains, enhancing MSME participation in global trade, and advancing digital economic cooperation. 

These deliberations are expected to reinforce BRICS’ role in shaping global trade and industrial growth.

The series of meetings and outcomes in Jaipur highlight India’s proactive role in advancing BRICS cooperation. By engaging bilaterally with Brazil and Egypt, and collectively with BRICS partners, India is positioning itself as a driver of resilient, innovative, and sustainable industrial and trade partnerships.
