At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured when a vehicle-borne suicide bomber struck a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday.

The explosion occurred near Aman Mela in the Darazinda area, according to Pakistan's national emergency response service Rescue 1122.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, commonly known as TTP, claimed responsibility for the attack in an official statement. Security sources confirmed that a suicide attacker detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at the roadside checkpoint, causing severe damage to the security post.

Rescue teams from the Darazinda station rushed to the scene immediately after being alerted about the blast and launched relief operations. Additional ambulances and rescue personnel from neighbouring districts of Karak and Hangu were deployed to assist with the search and rescue effort.

All injured victims received initial medical treatment at the site before being shifted to nearby hospitals for further care. Rescue workers recovered the bodies of 11 fatalities from the debris, with operations continuing to ensure no victims remained trapped.

The incident took place on the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Road, close to the volatile border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. This border region has frequently experienced militant violence and remains a strategic corridor for both security operations and smuggling activities.

Dera Ismail Khan district has witnessed repeated militant attacks on security forces throughout this month, marking an intensification of insurgent activity in north-western Pakistan.

The TTP has stepped up attacks on Pakistani security installations in recent years, particularly in areas proximate to the Afghanistan border.
