The navies of India and the United States are preparing to conduct the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi from 10 to 14 August.

The Indian Navy announced the upcoming engagement in a statement on Sunday, underlining its importance in advancing bilateral cooperation in specialised maritime operations.

The exercise is designed to enhance interoperability and strengthen professional cooperation between the specialist diving and EOD teams of both navies. Over the course of five days, the program will feature Subject Matter Expert Exchanges, cross-training sessions, equipment demonstrations and scenario-based practical exercises. These activities will allow personnel to refine procedures and improve their ability to respond effectively to complex and evolving EOD challenges.

A key focus of the exercise will be the exchange of contemporary EOD methodologies, emerging technologies and best practices. This will provide both sides with valuable insights into each other’s capabilities, operational concepts and employment philosophies. By sharing knowledge and techniques, the exercise aims to promote collaborative learning and operational synergy.

The Indian Navy emphasised that the engagement will enable personnel to strengthen mutual understanding and build confidence in joint operations. Such cooperation is vital in addressing the growing complexity of maritime threats, particularly those involving explosive ordnance in littoral and harbour environments.

The forthcoming exercise marks the eighth edition of this specialised bilateral training series. Since 2005, the Indian Navy and US Navy have conducted joint Salvage and EOD exercises, steadily expanding the scope and sophistication of their collaboration.

The continuity of these engagements underscores the enduring commitment of both navies to enhancing interoperability and sharing operational expertise.

The exercise also reflects the broader strategic partnership between India and the United States, where defence cooperation has become a central pillar.

By focusing on specialised maritime operations such as EOD, the two navies are not only strengthening tactical capabilities but also reinforcing their shared commitment to maintaining security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
