India lodged strong protests against Pakistan for 1962 ceasefire violations which led to the death of 50 civilians and accused Islamabad of providing support to terrorists for carrying out attacks in J&K

New Delhi: India on Thursday summoned a Pakistan High Commission official and lodged a strong protest over the violation of 2003 ceasefire agreement which led to the loss of many Indian lives. In a strongly worded protest, the Ministry of External Affairs said that despite repeated calls for restraint and adherence to the ceasefire understanding the Pakistani forces routinely carried out over 1,962 incidents of unprovoked ceasefire violations in which about 50 Indians have lost their lives, reported news agency ANI.

The MEA also asked Pakistan to fulfil its bilateral commitment of not allowing its territory to be used as a launchpad for terrorists to attack India in any way. Apart from this, New Delhi also lodged a protest over the rise in the number of terrorist infiltration across the Line of (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and said that Islamabad was backing terrorists who are targeting Indian civilians and security forces.

"Pakistan High Commission official was summoned today and a strong protest was lodged at the incidents of cross LoC terrorist infiltration and targeting of Indian civilians and security forces on December 21 and 26, 2018, leading to loss of lives on the Indian side," the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

In a separate development, it has now been learned that New Delhi will not hold any talks with Pakistan before the conclusion of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Bilateral ties between both the nations have remained frosty and Islamabad did not feature in New Delhi’s Neighbourhood First Policy throughout this year because of its constant support to cross-border terrorism.
