Bangalore-based Prime Toolings has embarked on developing a fully indigenous solid booster to support India’s next-generation missile and launch systems. This marks a significant step in localising the complete propulsion stack under its private-sector R&D roadmap.

The solid booster program aims at producing high-energy composite propellants and robust casing solutions using precision machining and additive manufacturing techniques suitable for tactical and strategic launch platforms.

Synchronised with this initiative, Prime Toolings continues advancement on its 1–2 kN Rotating Detonation Engine (RDE) program. The RDE effort focuses on achieving sustained supersonic combustion through rotating detonation waves, thereby enhancing thrust efficiency, specific impulse, and energy release characteristics compared with conventional ramjet cycles. Early prototype tests have demonstrated promising detonation stability and scalability potential for air-breathing propulsion modules.

The company’s integration roadmap also includes compatibility with Barak‑series air‑defence missiles, signalling an effort to develop plug‑and‑play propulsion units adaptable across surface‑to‑air and cruise applications. Indigenous supply-chain partnerships centred in Karnataka and Telangana are being strengthened for critical alloy casting, nozzle throat fabrication, and high‑temperature insulation materials.
