Start-Up Picraft Technology Unveils AI-Powered Harpy Eagle Drone Interceptor

Picraft Technology Pvt. Ltd. has unveiled a striking innovation in India’s growing counter-drone ecosystem.
The company has developed the Harpy Eagle, an AI-powered anti-drone interceptor designed to detect, track and destroy hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.
This compact system was showcased at the Aarohi AI Incubator at Raj Bhavan in Dehradun, where Uttarakhand Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh visited the company’s stall, underscoring official interest in indigenous defence innovation.
The Harpy Eagle is not a surveillance drone but a weapon built purely to eliminate other drones. It uses advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence to identify incoming threats, track their flight paths and then guide a miniature interceptor drone into them at high speed, physically knocking them out of the sky.
Krishna Singh, founder and lead R&D engineer of Picraft Technology, described the system as combining AI vision, precision guidance and rapid response to counter emerging drone threats across battlefields and critical infrastructure.
The design concept mirrors developments seen in Ukraine, where swarms of cheap, first-person-view drones have exposed the limitations of traditional air defence systems. These small, low-flying aircraft are difficult to detect and costly to counter with conventional missile systems.
Portable interceptors like Harpy Eagle represent a new class of weapons tailored to this challenge. Comparable systems have already appeared elsewhere, such as Russia’s Yolka, a rifle-shaped launcher that fires kinetic interceptor drones.
The Yolka, publicly revealed in 2025, has been deployed on Russian frontlines and can reach speeds of 220 to 250 km/h, though it is most effective against slower targets silhouetted against clear skies.
This limitation highlights the broader technical challenge of reliably tracking erratic drones flying low over cluttered terrain, a challenge Harpy Eagle must also overcome.
India’s interest in such systems reflects a rapidly evolving regional security environment. Both Pakistan and China have expanded their drone and precision-strike capabilities, prompting India to pursue layered counter-unmanned aircraft defences.
Longer-range systems like Bhargavastra, a missile-based interceptor developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited, can engage targets at distances of up to 2.5 km. In this architecture, Harpy Eagle would serve as a close-range, cost-effective solution complementing more sophisticated platforms.
However, Picraft Technology has not yet disclosed detailed specifications such as interception speed, range or unit cost, and it remains unclear whether the Indian military has formally evaluated the system.
The debut of Harpy Eagle at the Aarohi AI Incubator was a significant milestone for the young company. The incubator program, backed by the state, aims to connect promising entrepreneurs with mentorship and resources to transform early-stage ideas into working technologies.
Governor Gurmit Singh, a retired Indian Army officer who has prioritised artificial intelligence initiatives during his tenure, personally visited the stall. Krishna Singh described the moment as an honour and a validation of the firm’s efforts to contribute to India’s AI and defence innovation ecosystem.
By combining indigenous design with cutting-edge AI, Picraft Technology has positioned Harpy Eagle as part of India’s broader push towards self-reliance in defence technology.
Its emergence reflects both the urgency of countering modern drone threats and the determination of Indian start-ups to deliver frontline solutions in an increasingly contested aerial domain.
